ESPN 10/09/23 Saints News

The Saints placed Rookie WR Shaquan Davis on injured reserve.

After signing G Tommy Kraemer last Saturday 10/7/23 from the Practice Squad to the 53 Man Active Roster, he has been waived.

Additionally, the Saints waived CB Anthony Johnson from the Practice Squad.

So that’s 3 spots that will open on the 53-man roster. Mayes will take one. The other two?

The Saints are not required to release the injury to Shaq Davis that promted the team to place him on IR because he was on the practice squad, not the 53 man roster. They haven't stated the reason why yet. Davis had been activated to the game day active roster for one game but did not appear in the game. He will have an opportunity to return to the team later this year if his health allows.

Kraemer most likely will be resigned to the Saints practice squad if he clears waivers. This move may be an indication that Hurst will be healthy enough to play this week against the Texans.

Johnson may not be brought back anytime soon as he Saints have recently signed veteran corners Cameron Dantzler and Faion Hicks.

Ready for Maye and Haener coming back?

There was only one open spot on the 53 man roster after Kraemer’s release. Tommy Kraemer was cut for Maye’s return to the roster.

Shaq Davis and Anthony Johnson were on the practice squad since the season started. Davis was placed on the PS/injured list while on the practice squad.

Another player will have to be released in 2 weeks to make room for Jake Haener. It’ll probably be Luton.

This is more accurate except: Haener was suspended for 6 games, therefore, he will be eligible to return after this week.
