I wouldn't say annoys me... just kind of gives me that irked feeling.

Here's an example and I'll use fictional teams since I don't feel like doing research.

Analyst A: How do you think this game will go?

Analyst B: Well A, I think the Podunk Snakes have a real chance to pull this one off. Their playing well behind quarterback Tom Smith. Not to mention, the Dogs haven't won in Podunk since 1982.

Ok... so you're saying that even a small portion of your reasoning for making this analysis is that the last team to win there consists of a bunch of guys now considered senior citizens? What does the 1982 team have anything to do with the 2009 team... Nothing.

It's even worse in college, those players are on a 4 year rotation. How the 2003 LSU team played Florida at home has NOTHING to do with how the 2009 team will.

I agree to a certain extent; however there is something to be said for stats involving a cold weather vs a warm weather or dome team; or big school v small school. The constant "now here's a guy"'s drive me crazy.

I hate when analysts mention a QB's record (apparently the QB is all that matters) or quotes ridonkulous stats like "Player X's team is undefeated when he rushes for 112 yards on Saturday night games in August in odd-years with a full moon and the temperature between 50 and 76 degrees".

They did it last night - "Kerry Collins has never lost to the Steelers".

Yep.

That's another one I hate. "This event/play/whatever has never happened!" And they'll say it all game long. I remember a MNF game involving the Steelers in 2006 (year after their SB win) and their punter had never had a punt blocked. So EVERY SINGLE TIME HE PUNTED, they said it had never happened. Like they were trying to correctly foreshadow it so they made sure to say it every time.

And we always bring up how the Cowboys haven't beat us in over a decade..

P.S. I hate the Cowboys, and Falcons for that matter.

I actually think it reads fairly true in short bursts. Like the Steelers little issue with the Jags in the last 5 years. They've been our stupid loss team. So every time we play them for the next few games, I get concerned. But saying x team hasn't won somewhere since 1944, I don't care, that team probably hasn't been that good since 1944.
