Jockey Robby Albarado was wearing a football helmet -- emblematic of the owners -- after riding Pulaski County to victory in the eighth race Thursday at the Fair Grounds.
The helmet had the emblem of the Last Mango Racing Stable, a group that includes Saints Coach Sean Payton, General Manager Mickey Loomis, quarterback Drew Brees, singer Jimmy Buffett, former NFL player Ron Jaworski, Saints vice president of communications Greg Bensel and others.
Pulaski County rallied to a one-length victory in the race for $50,000 maiden claimers. Trainer Tom Amoss claimed Pulaski County for the owners for $50,000 in October at Keeneland. Monday's race was Pulaski County's fourth since the claim and ninth overall. He was racing for the first time with blinkers and the first time as a gelding.
