Question: Who will make it back to the Super Bowl, the Saints or the Colts? All four, as we would expect pick the Colts. Stuff like, you can't pick against Manning, his past win - lose record, the past history of super bowl winners not doing well the following year, etc. The Saints were good but............I got the feeling they felt our win was a fluke, like winning the lottery, shouldn't have happened. They did say that the NFC would be harder to win than the AFC. The Packers were mentioned as the winner along with the Vikings. So of course they see the Colts making it back to the 'BIG DANCE' but not us...........maybe not , maybe so but you have to play the game to see.........ask the Cardnals, Vikings and Colts. Talk is cheat, action speaks louder than words.............one game at a time- 9/9/2010. DROP THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BANNER and let the games begin.........should be fun.

Given that so many of them picked Indianapolis seven months ago, the argument is that they were actually right seven months ago--Indianapolis was the better team, and the Saints won on a fluke onside kick.

Of course, if we go by past history, Super Bowl losers fare even worse the year after a Super Bowl appearance than do Super Bowl winners, though the Colts have an extraordinary record of consistent excellence during the regular season over the past eight years or so.

I remember reading recently about computer models for the Super Bowl that showed Indianapolis had an edge, though it was extremely small--something like the Colts had a 51.5 percent chance, and the Saints obviously a 48.5 chance, of winning the game. In other words, the game was too close to call, the point spread favoring the Colts was much too high, and the two teams were very evenly matched.

And that seems to be the disconnect with some of the analysts. I also am concerned about whether we will be as motivated in 2010 as we were in 2009. But going back to the Super Bowl, the Saints winning was not a fluke because the two teams were evenly matched.

Well, guess what, Sports Reporters. The survey of NFL players recently posted on this site suggested that the Saints were the team they thought would be back in the big dance. Suck it!

Every time the "experts" pick against us, my confidence in this team goes up. :)

Lol how can you pick against the Colts? Easy, all those 12+ win seasons and how many rings do they have? 1. Anything it takes to keep the Saints out of any elite team talks. They will probably quit sports broadcasting if they have to say that the Saints repeated as Superbowl champs.

mt............I agree man !! The players see that too........makes that chip a little bigger each time !

It used to be that the Superbowl loser was predicted to have the tougher time getting back to the playoffs the next year because historically the loser has not done well the next season. Now all of a sudden, people are acting as if the Superbowl winner has been the team that has struggled the most the next season when that is simply not historically accurate. The Superbowl winner has made the playoffs the next season more often than not while the loser has, for whatever reason, missed more often than not. I remember the year New England went undefeated and lost to the Giants, analysts brought up the sort of "curse" on Superbowl losers but suggested that the Patriots were too talented not to return to the playoffs the next year. Then the next year, Brady gets hurt and the Pats go 11-5 but STILL missed the playoffs. The Giants, on the other hand, went back to the playoffs.

Now Pittsburgh did not make it back to the playoffs and the Cardinals did, so now everyone is predicting a falloff from the Saints. But Pittsburgh also did not make it back after their win over the Seahawks years ago. They have been the anomaly. Outside of the Steelers, most Superbowl champs recently have made it back to the playoffs. POINT IS, when we are talking about getting back to the Superbowl, we first must examine getting back to the playoffs. The Colts did it when they beat the Bears, the Bears did not. So, you would think that given the historical nature of things, people would feel that the Saints have a better shot at returning to the Superbowl because Superbowl winners have fared better than Superbowl losers at getting back to the playoffs.

But it's the Saints. And until we win two in a row, then it is better to treat what we have done as a fluke while continuing to extol the virtues of teams like the Colts, Cowboys, Chargers, Vikings, and Packers.

:muahaha:Number 1 reason the Colts wont make it back this year...."the new placememt of the ref rule"...its gonna kill the way Peyton plays the game

These sorts of facts are almost meaningless. Before last year no team had won the superbowl after losing their last three games, and no team had won the superbowl after losing to Tampa Bay. The latter fact was silly to being with, of course. The "lose three in a row" one makes a little sense because it suggests that the team is losing focus, but once again you have to put the numbers into perspective--especially when you take into account resting the starters.

i actually watched the segment this morning and don't really have a problem with what was said - imho, they were not dissing the saints so much as acknowledging the greatness, and unbelievable consistency, of the colts in recent years - along with the fact that it will be easier for the colts to come out of the afc than it will for the saints to win the nfc - remember, the colts breezed through the playoffs last year (no pun intended) whereas we were one bone-headed play by favre away from not making it to the big game

those are just facts, and if you were a neutral observer asked to pick who had the better chance of returning to the sb, the obvious choice would be the colts- i did not find their analysis offensive in any way
