A) we know the people that didn’t play that are hurt. There are a few other guys that are really hurt but have been playing anyway. As the losses mount - I think they decide to start sitting out as well. 30% + of the team quit out there today in the 4th Quarter and the majority of what’s left will probably mail it in if/when they lose on Thursday night.
B) the difference between this year and the last couple of years is that aside from Mike T the “core” vets kept their mouths shut and kept fighting hard. Those guys are a year older and are getting phased out so who is going to hold it together?
* My prediction for the future is as follows :
Dennis Allen goes back to Carr after the long week and the back half of their schedule is weak enough that it’s possible to get 6 wins. The blame is placed on the injuries and bad luck. They run it back with some schedule and medical personnel changes and “we’re close” “We can compete for the Division “
I say this because to fire DA and move on from Carr - the person making that call would have to admit ( publicly ) that they were wrong about everything they said over the last 3.5 years.
All of the talk about “the program we’ve built “ and “ we’ve won a lot of games around here “ and “we’ve had a lot of success for a long time in this building “ etc etc
That person would be forced to admit that they were wrong. They signed the wrong people , hired the wrong Head Coach , trusted the wrong people to sign the QB1 and waste money doing it , let the wrong guys leave for other teams , drafted the wrong guys etc etc.
That’s Mickey Loomis. This is a person who believed (last year at least ) and has privately lobbied to be considered for election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. I don’t think he’s capable of admitting that stuff. Go rewatch the gum chomping , black dress shirt post season press conference where “ he was ready for this question “ and where he read off the early career records of Tom Landry , Chuck Noll , Bill Walsh and compared those people to Dennis Allen and restated that DA was a “good coach”
There is an off possibility that ML gets made the fall guy and is forced to take a “executive chairman” title ( or he gets fired publicly ) and that would be Lauscha. I think there are 2 people that are untouchable and ML isn’t one of those 2 people.
Lauscha and 1 other person make every decision and are untouchable.
I could actually see that going down like that under the right mix of circumstances. But I can’t see Loomis firing DA and admitting he’s not any good and has never been.
I don’t think whatever happens Thursday night has any impact at all.
I think if Rattler would have lit it up and we won - DA and everyone else involved was prepared to throw Carr under the bus like they did Jameis Winston. That’s why Carr’s people got way out in front of the injury and leaked that it was “bad injury” and they leaked Rattler as the guy.
Sorry for the long winded post.
