NFL.COM Senior Writer Steve Wyche has updated his mock post Cutler and suggests there may be more trading to come because of it. He now has the SAINTS taking Tyson Jackson DE -LSU. He has Wells at 29 to the giANTS but says we could take Wells at 14. I like the idea of RB later due to value and situational duty. Must fix that "leaky" defense.

14. Saints Tyson Jackson DE LSU Tyson Jackson
The Saints are concerned that ends Will Smith and Charles Grant could have to serve four-game suspensions from testing positive for a banned diuretic last season, and the team wants to have an insurance player who also might develop into a starter. Jackson is a big anchor end who could be playing in front of a familiar fan base. The Saints want to replace burly RB Deuce McAllister, and Chris "Beanie" Wells could be in play, but a bigger back in the second or middle rounds could be a better value since that would be a situational role.

29. Giants Chris "Beanie" Wells RB Ohio State Chris "Beanie" Wells
The wide receiver help New York needs seems more likely to come via trade (Edwards, Boldin). If it requires this pick, the Giants probably would sacrifice this selection. If not, Wells, at this point, is way too valuable to bypass. The Saints could take him early, but their preference is to solidify the leaky defense that has kept the team out of the playoffs.

This guy is worse than Charles Davis when it comes to Mock drafts. He should stick to writing feel good articles.

We have a DE that is good against the run and sometimes lights it up in pass rush. Why do we need two of those?

Tyson Jackson is a Charles Grant clone. We'd take a smaller pass rush specialist before we draft Tyson Jackson. If the draft went down like that, I'd either go Aaron Maybin or Clay Matthews.

So they think we're using a 1st-round pick on a player as insurance in case our starters are suspended 4 games? A first round pick for a potential 4 game suspension, instead of turning to our *gasp* backups. Is that right? Is that what I'm hearing? Is that the logic? Yes? Yes, that's it? Ok, good, I just wanted to be clear on that.

Ooh, ooh, wait. Can he play DT? :hihi:

(Can of worms opened; ducks for cover.)

So he actually thinks a professional franchise would draft a first round player and give them millions of dollars due to maybe needing them four games?

What a dope.

I don't think this guy should be writing mocks, Bennie Wells to the Giants and we pass on Maybin and Rey Maualga? Just about every mock I see has it the same at the top then they just throw in what ever they want to after that, it usually the Saints pick a DB cause thats what they say every year and we never do.

Well considering the team has spent a fair amount on FA DEs (McCray, Spicer) in the last two offseasons I'd say it's a bit of a reach. Even if Grant and Smith are suspended the team will still have McCray, Spicer, Charleston, and Ninkovich. Not exactly a huge hole especially factoring in just how much Grant and Smith have underachieved. Not an area of need........

He also says we could grab a big back in the second or middle rounds. I think somebody should do their homework.

We don't have a second buddy. :9:

Maybe he thinks we will have a second by way of trade before the second round is over.

Well then he should state that and inform us how we get the second. The way he did it made him sound uninformed.

I see what youre saying but he just needs to explain himself if he's going to do something like that.

That is one nutty mock draft. The Saints have huge money tied up in Charles Grant and Will Smith at DE and he thinks the team is going to draft Tyson Jackson at # 14 to a huge contract, just as insurance if Grant and Smith are suspended. His entire mock draft is strange.

He has B.J Raji being drafted out of the top ten. falling to the Broncos at # 12. He sounds real jaded to the plight of the Broncos and seems to have twisted his mock to make him and Bronco fans feel good about his pick at # 12.
