With Chris Johnson, you get a very different back than Dom, K2, or Addai. What is immediately eye-popping about Johnson is his 40 time: 4.25. He was the fastest player at the NFL Combine, and his clocked time raised more than a few eyebrows. But fast 40 times can often be misleading. Troy Williamson is one fast mutha. But he can't catch to save his life, and that's not good for a WR. Johnson is a running back, and when I hear him referred to as a "poor man's Reggie Bush," I get a little nervous. Why?
Because Reggie Bush stinks, and I shudder to think of what a "poor man's" version of this loser would play like.
Running backs who cannot run the football are crappy running backs. I don't care about their 40 times, their hands, or their ability to make people miss. Running backs must be able to run through, around, over, and one top of other people. They must continue moving forward after first contact. It's like a QB who can't throw the ball accurately (Vince Young). Sure, he can run, throw deep, and has a "winner's" mentality. If he can't throw accurately from the pocket, he's garbage. But, I digress.
The question here is Chris Johnson a "***** back" like Reggie Bush? Does he go down after first contact? Does he dance rather than run? Does he play better in space rather than in the alley? These are all legit questions, and the doubts surrounding these questions are likely to knock Johnson down to the late second round despite his tremendous physical gifts.
Ok, I've spent the first few paragraphs comparing Johnson to Bush (and those of you with dirty minds, we are kindred spirits). The comparisons end when discussing their character. Reggie Bush is a whiny ***** who likely cheated NCAA rules and is hated by his teammates in New Orleans. His toughness is often questioned as is his desire to get better. This guy was supposed to be the best player since Barry Sanders or Gayle Sayers, and the Houston Texans were thrown under the bus for passing on him in 2006 in favor of Mario Williams. Today, Williams is the foundation for a very promising Houston defense and Reggie Bush is starting to look like the Ryan Leaf of running backs. To look at what kind of player Chris Johnson is, we turn to our friends at New Era Scouting. With Chris Johnson, you have someone who might not be a leader, but is most certainly a high character individual:
That is supposed to be a guy writing about why the Colts should draft Chris Johnson. What is his problem?
This idiot is exactly why I can't wait for Reggie to have a great year running behind Goody, with Deuce or Pierre keeping the defense on their toes and we can use him to help us win.
And I don't care what anyone says, he is the best open field runner in the league. I wish some journaists or bloggers would just watch him breaking arm tackles and refusing to go down before they bashed him like this.

Who cares? It's just his opinion. I agree with one thing - Bush is not a true RB. Still, he is no bust by any means. He puts fear in defenses whenever he is on the field.

What do you expect? he's hardly done anything since he got here

yep i suppose your right since reggie didnt win the game against tampa bay two years ago, have almost 120 rushing yards against the giants, blow up san fran and dallas, he doesnt open up the rest of the field for brees, teams dont gameplan to stop him right? excellent post by the way.

I'm an Indianapolis native (Evansville born) Hoosier that spends time in New York City and Indy throughout the year. I began rooting for the Colts in 1990, when my mother would watch the Monday Evening QB segment on the local news which featured then-Colts QB Jeff George. George had long hair, a beard, and often looked like he'd just rolled out of bed. Mom had a crush on him(God knows why). Because of this crush, we started watching football on Sunday. My father did not support the violence that football seemed to promote, but my brother and I watched football with Mom not because of Jeff George, but because the Colts were Indy's football team. We suffered through the lean years; years that featured Jack Trudeau throwing 3 yard passes to Reggie Langhorne. Years of terrible defense and offense so inept and dull it would put us to sleep by the second quarter. We suffered through these years, but they helped us appreciate great play when it finally arrived in 1995 with QB Jim "Captain Comeback" Harbaugh and then later on with the drafting of Peyton Manning. I'm a true blue Indianapolis Colts fan, and we Hoosiers love our blue horses. Go Colts!

I can see this thread won't last long :(

Wow! 15 TDs, over 2,500 all purpose yards, 115 first downs, and 161 receptions in 28 games is "hardly anything?"

Thanks for posting that up - it always helps to consider the source.

Never trust a man who apparently would have little interest in football if it had not been for his mother lusting over Jeff George.

either he is a hater, or the truth hurts. which is it?

gregh69, as much as you hate Bush, and believe me, you've made your point crystal clear as to how you feel about the guy, the attacks in that blog are unwarranted. It's one thing to state that a player is not what he was thought to be, but to attack the personal character of the guy in such a distasteful way, is ridiculous. Further, you should be ashamed to agree with such attacks about a player on a team that you supposedly support and cheer for. You're probably one of the most, if not the most negative posters on the board, and you never add any substance to the conversation. Every chance you get, you have to remind us of your hatred/disdain for Reggie Bush. Don't you think we get it, and it's time to give it a rest?

I have heard this several times before. I think it wouldn't hurt us as fans to see the truth about some things right now before we're forced to later on and look like idiots for doing an overnight 180. I'm not predicting doom or anything, but we do tend to flip overnight when there are things we could have just as easily admitted all along and still liked the player (e.g. Joe Horn).

I'll start by admitting that it is possible Reggie is not well liked in the locker room and that he often appears to go down WAY too easily on first contact. Sure, I've seen him struggle to get extra yards and even appear to will himself through defenders using pure fight (such as in the Atlanta game last year), but unless he's trying to get in the end zone, I rarely see Reggie put his body on the line for more yards. He's even bragged that he avoids "unnecessary" contact.

P.S. I love Reggie and I'm by no means a "hater." I just think we could make positive use of a hateful article like this to consider alternatives to our current thinking.
