Man, this one REALLY snuck up on me. So, last night, Survivor's 48th season aired it's premiere episode, and so far, it looks like it has potential to be a good season. The cast seems to have a lot of energy, and there are some pretty interesting archetypes this year.

One of them that really impressed me was Ericka. She should have her photo next to "overachiever" in the dictionary. She is cute, smart, is the captain of what was a men's hockey team, she's a PHD candidate at Brown university in the field of engineering and fluid and thermal science. Oh..and she's autistic. The idea of someone with autism, who is aware they have it and who is able to communicate that effectively to someone else and let that person know what their triggers are and what to watch out for; without coming across as helpless, is something that I can't wait to see how it plays out in the game. Entering a contest where you know people are going to lie to you and deceive you, and knowing you don't pick up verbal and non-verbal cues well (making you easy to lie to), is a risky proposition. But, I can't help but root for her.

The premiere episode was good, but I was disappointed in one thing. In the sneak-peek at the end of last season, and in the trailer that is on youtube, Jeff was shown stopping a challenge for a medical issue. That happened during the marooning challenge last night, but it was not shown. Kevin dislocated his shoulder, and it had to be re-set. While I get that they can't show everything that happened...teasing that in the trailers, and then not showing it during your 2 hour premiere did bug me. It was only made worse when later in the episode we were treated to what felt like 30 minutes of someone struggling to open a cryptex puzzle.

Here's looking forward to a fun season.

Oh, and for those who are interested, with Season 50 about to film this summer, CBS is letting the viewers vote on some things. Currently, you can vote on the tribe colors, whether or not the players are given rice to start the game, whether there is a firemaking challenge at the final four or a regular vote out, and whether the vote reveal is done on the island followed by a recap or if there is a live reunion show back in Los Angeles. Maybe there will be more things to vote for in the next few weeks, I don't know. But to vote, you can go to: https://www.survivor50cbs.votenow.tv/

Still watching but looks good. I feel the show and last season was more balanced and a much better watch.

On a related note, we've been watching "The Traitors" on Peacock...mainly because Rob Mariano, Tony Vlachos, and Carolyn Wiger were on this season. It's a fun diversion.
