Take this poll: Should the Saints take a late round flier on Kyron Lacy

It's always been this way with pro athletes. If a guy can run and catch, he'll at least land a tryout somewhere. Actual jail time is about the only thing that would stop that from happening. Emphasis on the first three words there, of course.

For the older fans out there, I'll take a passage out of my Saga of the Saints book that's probably a bit dusty on the ol' bookshelf. In 1976 or '77, during Hank Stram's time as coach, the Saints signed a lineman named Oakley Dalton out of Jackson State as a free agent off the street. Free agency back then was strictly "off the street." Reason he wasn't drafted? "I shot some dude," he's quoted in Wayne Mack's book as saying at the time.

These issues are often solved by financial payments to the family and probation depending on past history etc - it’s possible if this is the line of thought we will know something pre-draft

Though not sure he has any finances if not drafted high

The saints could be seen as a destination for Udfa that may pay him more than late round pick with the Saints helping out local person and on a team with past lsu players etc

I don’t see him at the level of the recent lsu WRs

He does have franchise changing potential. It could be the difference between him and a Cedrick Wilson or someone who could take over CO’s spot, depending on what happens with him. A guy doesn’t have to be a top 10 pick in order to be franchise changing. The goal is to build the best roster possible. I would most definitely take Kyren on our team.

This all just happened in December. He didn't turn himself in until a warrant was issued a few weeks later.

The police report is stark and there will be witnesses and surviving victims.

ESPN: According to a news release from state police, Lacy was allegedly driving a 2023 Dodge Charger on Louisiana Highway 20 and "recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed by crossing the centerline and entering the northbound lane while in a designated no-passing zone."

"As Lacy was illegally passing the other vehicles, the driver of a northbound pickup truck abruptly braked and swerved to the right to avoid a head-on collision with the approaching Dodge," a Louisiana State Police news release said.

"Traveling behind the pickup was a 2017 Kia Cadenza whose driver swerved left to avoid the oncoming Dodge Charger. As the Kia Cadenza took evasive action to avoid impact with the Dodge, it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound 2017 Kia Sorento."

Police alleged that Lacy, 24, drove around the crash scene and fled "without stopping to render aid, call emergency services, or report his involvement in the crash."

Herman Hall, of Thibodaux, Louisiana, who was a passenger in the Kia Sorento, later died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to state police. Hall was 78.

The drivers of the Cadenza and Sorento also sustained moderate injuries, according to police.

He declared for the draft two days after the crash. (he thought and/or acted as if he was free and clear).

He was not invited to the combine because of the incident.

LSU's pro day is tomorrow and he is expected for drills. That might be a little awkward but football life goes on.

He's 6'2" and 213 lbs, runs a 4.5ish 40. His measurables are exactly what the Saints need. He may need some years to grow up and that's a risk just as his incident is.

When and wear he lands is a huge unknown (this season or seasons away), as he's early in the judicial process. Had no one died or been injured, it might be more plausible to see a way to move on. If he were not a celebrated football player, he'd be knocked out of society for multiple years. That NIL is quite a safety net.

Last year they had top reporters covering it and NFL Network covered it for an hour in the evening. No idea if that happens, but you know there will be coverage, starting from LSU's media dept.

In football context only, he will slide down, but those measurables are too enticing to pass up taking a late round flyer for him, by a team willing to wait for it all to play out.

If we’re talking day 3 pick, I say go for it. There are 32 teams and one of them is going to bring him in and benefit from it. We’re not so deep in talent that we should be excluding early round talent in favor of actual late rounders that might wash out regardless. It’s the ugly part of the business.

I’m reaching????? Dude, you would literally pass over talent bc the guy doesn’t have outer worldly or rare talent. How many Randy Mosses or LTs actually come into the NFL? Not many man. Forgive me, some of us don’t use Grey Poupon like you apparently. I know I wouldn’t pass on a guy that is talented and can help me win ball games.

I don't know him personally, but I do know some of his family. I know the allegations against him are serious and we will have to see how all that plays out......but I've heard nothing but good things about the kid. You can make a horrific decision and still be a good person.

I would be totally fine taking a flyer on him, but generally speaking, Loomis steers clear of those type players.

Production at LSU was a huge let down. Add to that the off field stuff and it’s a no for any round before the 7th or a UDFA. Nothing about his production screams early to mid round pick. Even if he was clean off the field he’s a late round guy.

Wouldn’t spend draft capital on someone who 50/50 chance he never plays an NFL down because of character/judgment issues.

Being from Thibodaux, and knowing more about this situation a little bit better than most, we should definitely grab him if he’s there in the last 3 rounds. The case for negligent homicide is skewed at best, and he is represented by Matthew Ory, probably the best attorney on the bayou. It’s a careless operation, leaving the scene at worst. We saw how Rashee Rice was punished.
