As a musician this place was deep-rooted in rock history, it was kinda like the CBGB of Baton Rouge. A lot of touring regional and semi-national acts played their first gig(s) here. The fire started in one of the band practice rooms next to The Caterie and eventually spread to it. The fire is still burning in the building complex and could even personally affect two BR SR forum members and both their band's practice rooms/gear.

It was sad to see The Caterie burned down, but hopefully nothing more happens with what's left of the fire today.

Damn, that sucks......

The Caterie was a venue where I played some of my favorite gigs back in the 80's....I hope they get to rebuild....

Definitely sucks. My brother played there atleast once a week for prolly 20 years and still did. I hear the owner is planning on rebuilding so that's good, but it will obviously never be the same.

Used to watch this dude there quite a bit in the early 90's. I think his name was Kirk Holder. Great fried cheese and $2 pitchers of Natty Light.

Now that is a shame.

Best fried cheese sticks evah.

wow..I played music there back in the mid 80's...good food, too. Sad to see it go.

Don't sweat it, dudes.
The White House burned down (damn Brits) and look at it now.

I've known Kirk for a long time.

Fried cheese was the best evar..

Wow Kirk Holder... I remember seeing Kirk many of times there. I used to work at the Fish Bowl that was next door in the early 90's.
mmmm Natty Light pitchers, ahh the memories.....

those of you who played there in the 80's - what bands? I worked there from 84-87 and lived across the street :covri: while in college.

It's really a shame. Some great regular gigs there - Kenny Neal (with all of his family at one point or another), Chris Thomas (King), Better Than Ezra...All with no cover charge.

Business most have been bad.

What really sucks, from what I read, is that a bunch of bands kept their equipment in a storage room there and it's all toast. That's tough.

J.T. and the Gutter Sharks.....:9: '86-'87 I played drums, we had a five peice band piled on that little stage, and every gig was a blast. With no cover, there was always a good crowd....and I met many a hot women there....
