Ok...let me be clear that I am in no way saying that the officials were responsible for yesterday's result. The Saints got beat by a much better team yesterday, and it wasn't the officials' fault.

With that said, the officiating yesterday was horrible. Off the top of my head:

---Several flags picked up with no explanation, one time a simple, "There is no foul on the play."
---The Chargers were flagged for having 12 men in the huddle when they actually only had 10 men in the huddle.
---Right before the safety, the Saints almost sacked Herbert, who threw the ball away. The refs quickly blew the play dead for an incomplete pass, and even announced that the ruling on the field was an incomplete pass. However, the pass hit an offensive lineman right in the chest, and he almost actually caught the ball. Shouldn't that have been a penalty?
---The pass to Kamara. AK caught the ball, and was tackled pretty quickly. It was ruled a completion. They showed us a replay showing that the ball hit the ground right as he was catching it. The refs announce that thanks to replay assist, the previous play was ruled an incompletion. Ok, I'm fine with that. I'm all for using replay to ensure they get the calls right. BUT....why is it that when Olave's catch was ruled incomplete, and they showed us multiple angles showing that it was a completion, three steps were taken, he was hit, and the ball came loose after he hit the ground, did we have to use a challenge to get that call overturned?

Brah, at this stage of the season, who really cares. We are in contention for the number one pick. Let's not eff it up.

I'm finding it harder and harder to watch the broadcast games for the NFL. It doesn't seem to matter which game I watch or who the announcers are it feels like they know nothing about the teams their covering and they make statements that are outright objectively wrong about players. Then couple it with the bazillion camera angles they have now, where every single play someone is caught on camera doing something they don't call but, should have. It ends up feeling like someone is just spinning a roulette wheel on what actually constitutes a penalty this play - especially live ball plays. Even within the same game the refs are calling very inconsistent games even where it's like a bad but favorable call for a team and then a bad makeup call against them. The game feels way over officiated and yet somehow it feels like the actual critical stuff is missed.

I mean...I literally spent the first two sentences of my post specifically stating, and then repeating, that this had nothing to do with the Saints and their performance (or lack thereof).

That’s why the refs made bad calls for both teams?
Its a reason why the officiating as a whole sucks. When billions of dollars are moving weekly in a now gambling free society, there will always be "influence". You would have to be a fool to not believe it or addicted to gambling to disregard it.

Lets check in with New York. Who is New York? Who are these mysterious people making decisions?

I honestly don't know the rules anymore. What's a catch?

I just learned this game that apparently a catch in the end zone, your heel can touch out of bounds if you touch your toe in boundds first. What!?

They have made the rules so opaque to practically apply, that you just have to shrug your shoulders and say, "Well, if the refs said so, I guess it is right."

Oh yeah...I forgot about that one.

Here's my officiating idea:

And, no, it will not FIX officiating. I think we are past that part. But it should make officiating a lot more fun.

Here me out. There is a "Sky Judge" but he doesn't signal when to throw flags/pick them up. Instead, he just focuses on when the officials blow a call. When that happens, he signals down, and the officials all gather at mid-field and take a shot. This, in my opinion, would make games much more watchable.

I agree that officiating in general sucks. I feel like they do a better job in College.

Brady and Mahomes tend to get more calls in their favor, but more people bet on them. So following that logic, Vegas would make more $ if KC loses, or doesn’t the cover the spread. Yet, the refs are going against Vegas.

Lots of sharp money on dogs.

There are people who bet on their team no matter what. Find some Philly fans or New York fans. They expect their baseball teams to go 162-0, NBA teams to go 82-0 and the NFL teams to be 16-0. They bet on them all.

Going back to favorites and dogs, take the Cheifs for example, they can still win but not cover the spread.

Look at that Dallas and 49ers game last night. 49ers were up large, point spread was -5 as frisco was a fave. Dallas is Americas team lol.

How about Redskins/Bears...spread 2.5

I dont gamble but I have heard many many times many decades ago Bobby Hebert talking about Vegas spreads and I would imagine he still mentions it from time to time. So I check them like he does and have a distaste for them like him also. Bobby Knows whats up.

No one will want to hear it, but the officiating has actually been overwhelmingly in our favor this season. We are just that bad.

This is the worst saints team I’ve seen in my lifetime as it exists currently.
