Don't miss this article, illustrates the Payton/Brees dynamic nicely. A lot of information you've heard before but definitely some behind the scenes playcall scheming stuff I haven't read before.

This is beautiful stuff. Thanks for the article.

Yeah my son sent it to me. Great article. Really explains why it's so rare to anybody miss an assignment. They are too meticulous to allow it to happen.

That's gotta be one of the best articles I've ever read about Sean's and Drew's symbiotic relationship. Very well done.

Bump for those who haven't read it yet

To me, this article is proof that it is going to take a really special guy to replace Drew Brees when he finally hangs up his cleats. The 'new' QB will have to be a true football general that is driven as much as Sean is himself. Part of me now thinks that Taysom Hill is probably being groomed as the heir apparent.

Payton isn't just throwing Hill under center occasionally simply to throw off the defense. He is trying to see how Taysom commands the game as it has been developed during these midweek study sessions. If Taysom isn't savvy or intelligent enough to dissect the game prep similar to Drew Brees, I don't see him getting the gig.

Reading this article, I now believe that Payton already sees a lot of Drew's style of prep work in Hill, or else we wouldn't be seeing him under the center as much as we have. Coach Payton clearly wants to have the new QB doing Drew Brees sort of things. And that's going to take as much brains as it does brawn. That was a very eye-opening article! :9:

"During the third week of the 2006 preseason, the Saints traveled to Indianapolis to face Peyton Manning and the powerhouse Colts."
Small nitpick: They traveled to Jackson, Mississippi, for that game.

I was at that game. The traffic was miserable.
