When reading an article earlier on YardBarker I saw a slideshow covering the worst 25 teams in the past 50 years. The Bucs appear on the list twice as the worst and the 12th worst. The Panthers make the list as the 13th worst. The Falcons appear on the list as the 2(8)3rd worst. The Browns are listed as the 4th, 5th, and 6th worst. Yikes! The Saints didn't escape the list as they appear as the team having had the 11th worst season in the past 50 years. Here's what they had to say about the Saints 1980 season.

Archie Mannings career became perhaps the NFLs closest equivalent to "Space Jam" universe Michael Jordan's would be reality had the Toon Squad not prevailed in that fateful matchup. A quality talent tethered to terrible teams, the Manning patriarch finished in the top 10 in TD passes and passer rating in 1980. New Orleans' defense allowed 487 points -- the second most in the 80s -- and these Saints, a year away from George Rogers' arrival, had no 400-yard rusher. The Saints started 0-14 and were a game-winning Tony Galbreath TD away from 0-16. In week 14 they blew a 28-point lead -- still a regular season record -- to the Joe Montana-led 49ers.

Was it an older article? The Colts blew a 33-0 lead against the Vikings last year.
From what I could tell it appeared to be an article YardBarker originally put out last year (??) but was updated just 12 days ago. I quoted their take on the Saints word for word. With you having brought forward this information they should update their article to remove that one statement in order to be factually correct. Good Catch!

It's because of the 1980 Saints that I'm a fan. (Skip if you've heard my story before.)

That Friday, the 3rd grade class bullies, who were all Jets fans (I grew up in Brooklyn), were talking about how their team wasn't very good, but they were super confident, the way bullies often are, that they would win Sunday against the 0-14 "Aints". My dad wasn't a big football fan (he'll root for the Giants, but really the Mets, Knicks and Rangers are all more important to him), so I had little allegiance, and on that bitter cold December Sunday when nobody was leaving the house, the Jets game was on TV and I rooted for the Saints to win, so the class bullies would be disappointed. When the Saints staged a 4th quarter comeback, my fate was sealed.

and both Vikes-Colts and 9ers-Saints went to OT, so qualifiers like “in regulation” and “regular season” don’t differentiate between them.

the losing qb in the biggest comeback/chokes all time in the regular season and super bowl? cam jordan’s favorite

That season is also what cemented my Sainthood

Yeah, I also remember that Jets/Saints game from ‘80. I remember the game but for some reason my thoughts about that game include the wind blowing lots of trash across the field and bad weather at the end….crazy memories of the conditions and the actual game.
