Ok for grins and giggles lets propose the following scenarios

1) The Saints find a suitor for Stinchcomb and the #10 pick in KC for the #5 pick

2) The Saint trade down with Philly and get Lito Sheppard and the #19 pick for #10

3) The Saints draft best player available and stay at #10

Which would be your preference?

Assuming Ellis will be there at #5 I would like to move up and pick up Ellis. Then get the best CB available in the 2nd round.

Stinch is not anywhere near enough to trade up to number 5. Would never happen.

But if we are assuming these are all actual scenerios that would be the best one.

oops, i voted what i think is gonna happen (keep 10 and take bpa)... oh well, that'd be ok with me

Sorry the poll question is worded wrong. It should say Stinch and #10 for #5.

dunno bonchie.. kc is needing O-lineman...
just depends on how much they value stinch...
stranger things have happened.
although, i don't see it happening anymore than miami making that trade for the #1 overall.. and that 's too high to jump up.. because of the salary.
dorsey is the one i'd most like to have.. that being said.. ellis doesn't appear to be that much of a dropoff. ellis may turnout to be the better of the 2 in a year or 2. in the nfl, who knows..

Can anyone post with a straight face that Stinchcomb is worth a high 2nd, low 1st round value? KC isn't stupid.

The vast majority of people polled would be happy to get a 3rd round value for Stinch. And everyone else thought he was either 2 valuable or that he was worth more than a 3rd. According to the pick value chart a early to mid 3rd rounder and #10 will get you up to #5. The fact that KC needs starters at both OT spots to me raises his value to them.

No he only needs to be worth a 3rd rounder according to the draft value chart to justify KC's making the trade. Its only 5 spots and if you where trading a pick it would be a 3rd rounder not a late 1st or early 2nd.

Not exactly:

You have to be the only one in the 6 - 10 range. If there's more than one it will cost you a lot more than just the additional third. No, 5 is cost prohibitive.

Sure, but we get the idea.

KC will never do it, and we won't either.

The 5 pick will cost too much, and they won't want Stinch at that level any more than we want to trade him.

With these choices, we stay at 10 and take BPA.

Trade will be possible if Ellis moves to 7th or higher. Don't count on it, and I'm confident we won't sell the farm to get him or anyone else. 10 will be a very good player.

a starting rt on a line that gave up only 16 sacks? I know Stinch is not highly regarded by (some) on this board, but I think he is respected in the league...although such a trade leaves a gaping hole at RT (and I'm nowhere near sold on Strief or Bushrod)

The difference between 5 and 10 is around 400 points. Thats a mid 2nd rounder. Our 3rd rounder is worth 215 points.

Pick Value Chart

And KC has the upper hand because they are the ones above us. They aren't going to make a straight up deal just to be nice. They will want to gain something in the deal which could mean we'd have to throw in a late round pick along with our 2nd.

Stinchcomb would be lucky to be valued as a 5th rounder. At best hes an average RT. Average RT's don't command 2-3rd round values.

I think you are saying if anyone else between #6 and #9 want to move up then it gets more expensive. Thats if someone else in that range has an extra starting tackle they want to get rid of and can solve KC's problem with one trade down. They would have Stinch and Clady manning the OL for the foreseeable future.

LOL its fun talking about this stuff. So I can put you down for deffinatly worth trading up if KC would do it then. Its a matter of how much value KC puts on Stinch. We thought that Johnathan Sullivan was worth 2 first round picks 5 years ago and he is out of the league. So what you are saying is you would take a 4th rounder for him but you would feel bad for taking KC for a 2nd rounder for him.

Feel bad? I'd get on my knees and thank God if KC took Stinchcomb from us for a 2nd round value.

I'd be happy if we could get a 4th rounder for the guy, much less a 2nd round value.

That's exactly what I'm saying.

And I like:

Say what? No such thing friend.

Clady and Stinch for the foreseeable future? With Clady at 10, and Stinch in a trade for their 5th? OK folks, lets get a grip here. That OL would get killed.
