Wife and I will be making the trek to Atlanta for the Saints game. We will be leaving Friday afternoon. We were thinking of staying over night in between the trip so we can be refreshed the Saturday.

Been kinda looking on the map for towns to stay at, but nothing really seems appealing. With gas being so cheap recently, we are willing to go a little out the way. Any suggestions? We will be leaving from Lafourche (south west of New Orelans).

Where are you coming from?

From Thibodaux maybe? I'm from Napoleonville. We've made that trip several times. From New Orleans it's about 7 hours to Atlanta give or take a half hour. I divide it into 3 stretches:
New Orleans to Mobile - 2 hours and change
Mobile to Montgomery - 2 hours
Montgomery to Atlanta - 2 hours and change

Granted these times probably reflect familiarity. I've done this trip VERY often. Also, keep in mind that you lose an hour. From Napoleonville, It becomes about 8 and a half. I usually do it straight, but we've stopped in Gulfport, MS or Ocean Springs, MS a couple times too. That's only about 2 1/2 to 3 hours into the trip, but it does help the drive the next morning. Driving Alabama is monotonous and Bamas tend to block the passing lane (Move over and go 70 MPH!)

Once you get on I65 the stretch from Mobile to Montgomery, there's no really good places to stop. Stopping during the stretch from Montgomery to Atlanta just seems pointless to me. So if you were going to stop, I'd recommend Gulfport or Mobile, though they are hardly halfway points.

Have a safe trip!

I've always just driven straight through to Atlanta.

It's really not that long of a drive if you're used to road tripping.
