I'm looking into doing some tuna fishing out of Venice, LA. I've found quite a few online but it's hard to differentiate between them.

Anyone ever used one of the charters out there? If so, any reviews or recommendations?

Hunter Caballero or Scott Avenzino with Paradise Outfitters 610-1686.

We used Capt. Josh Howard with Deep South Charters about two years ago. I would recommend and use him again.

Always heard good things about Cpt. Peace Marvel.

We went a few years ago on a 26 foot cat charter. It was a hard core charter. The guys fished hard with little breaks. First thing to do is decide if you want to fish hard, or you want an easy cruise on a big yact. It's two very differnet kind of trips. In the fall time frame when the Tuna are spread out, I'd definitly suggest a fast boat. We ran from trawler to trawler pitching poggies up next to them and killed the tuna. Two yellow fin over a hundred lbs and about 30 black fin. Best fishing trip I have ever been on, but we were beat up by the time we got back in. That kind of trip is not for everybody!!

Does he wear a cape and fly around saving people?

Not usually because he can't actually fly, but he is a 1st rate freak and a first rate guide and person, as well. He runs a good outfit though I don't care for the little cats they run and just can't handle extended periods around someone who changed their name to a combination of comic book terms.

He does not actually think he's a comic hero.

I just spoke to an avid tuna fisherman who does not charter, but recommended this guy....Capt Eddie Burger. Said he is REALLY REALLY good.

Captain Eddie is another great young captain. I've fished with him a few times, as well and he will work his butt off for you. Last I heard, he'd moved up to a big mono-hull prototype of some sort.

I don't have his number in my phone, but send a pm if you can't find it and I'll have it at home.

Hunter put me on this 50+ lbs mahi a couple years ago. Great trip! Plus, he has (or at least had) giant bean bag chairs for seating in his boat... super-comfortable and you can grab a nap on the way back in haha.

I've fished with Josh twice before, most recently in January. He just got a new boat earlier this year that is very nice. He fishes very hard and chances are you'll be out there from sunup to sundown.

By the looks of that gaff shot, you must have had mate Woody on board poking holes in the guts of your fish.
