Underhill: Saints are interviewing probably 12 coaches [Tracker: 7 scheduled interviews] (35 Viewers)

I haven't seen/read much, and there probably ought to be more? He's successfully lead the Eagles offense this year by hiding a middling throwing QB (Hurts) and putting the load onto Saquon. He had some very good years in DAL doing a little bit of the same. They were very highly ranked in points and yardage. He has a decent amount of the hallmarks you look for in a young coordinator; success in different schemes/ways, creative usage with plenty of motion and high pace, really good run game and some practical playing experience. He's not a bad guy to be talking to imo.
Sounds like you just introduced the Saints next head coach. Kellen Moore appears to be the best choice out of the current 5 scheduled for interview, followed by Brady. Some of it is good fortune to be in position to be a successful OC with Prescott and Hurts. But Moore is still the one who schemed and playcalled the 1st, 14th, 2nd, 11th, 18th, and 8th ranked offenses in his 6 seasons as OC. Chargers didn’t have much healthy skill talent when Moore OCed the 18th ranked offense in his one year there. He has an impressive offensive coaching resume in short time.

It’ll be interesting to see who the next 3 to 8 candidates are.

If it's Moore, we might as well get the Black and Gold Jeanty jerseys ready.

Payton was Assistant Head Coach and QB coach in Dallas, not just QB coach. And the city was in shambles and I can't think of better prospects at the time that were looking to come here.

Was it Holmgreen or Mike Sherman that interviewed? That's who I wanted. I forget who the other guys were. But I was definitely disappointed when they hired Payton. Good thing nobody listens to me. :)

He's on the interview list, and people talk about him like he's this great offensive mind.
Kellen Moore’s scoring during the last 6 seasons (2024-2019) are 8th, 21st, 4th, 1st, 17th, and 6th while he was OC. An average of 9th.

Saints scoring ranks 24th, 9th and 22nd in the last 3 years. Or average of 18th.

This team is really missing a head coach who can score points.

How many interviews are too many? Best I can tell, we considered five coaches the year we hired Payton.

Donnie Henderson
Maurice Carthon
Sean Payton
Mike Sherman
Mike Martz

From the perspective of a coach, if you know that the Saints are interviewing 12 candidates, do you really like interviewing here versus somewhere else where they've at least narrowed you down to their top five?

Tom Benson is no longer with us to make another Payton-like hire.
You really think Tom had more to do with the hiring of Sean Payton than Mickey Loomis did?

I get that people are upset with Mickey because of the last few years. His experiment with DA just didn't work, but we don't need revisionist history that makes it sound like Loomis had nothing to do with building the golden era for this franchise.

Yes. Loomis was the bean counter. Tom ran the show, he gave the keys to Sean. Tom hired Ditka as well and gave him the keys to trade away 1.5 draft classes... So Tom aint mr perfect, but to claim the same people will be hiring the coach as who hired Payton is just flat out false.

sean payton was another hire that was down the wish list etc. we are no worse of a destination currently than what we've always been. if anything, we are a better destination than ever... minus a bit of a short term cap issue.
