"Mason Tipton, WR - Yale

Though falling short in that the author didn't bother to add physical stats, like that Tipton is 5-11, 191 lbs, I found this part most interesting:

"Tipton saved his best production for 2023, pulling in 52 receptions for 786 yards, 10 scores, and four 100-yard outings. His 19 career touchdowns puts him third on Yale's all-time list. An impressive 4.33 40 time at his Pro Day also caused scouts to pay closer attention to him leading up to the draft.

Possessing electric speed and explosive acceleration to create separation, Tipton could be a big-play slot specialist initially for an NFL offense. He has impressive body control to adjust to off-target throws and is willing to lay out for a reception. Tipton has excellent hands and ball-tracking ability, especially on deep throws."

So how does a guy like that go undrafted? My first impression was, "This is an undrafted free agent, so at best, he is a Shaheed-like receiver", but nothing wrong with that. Then, the problem is, with such a loaded WR room (other than having a bonified no.1 at this point), how is someone like Tipton going to make the team beyond the practice squad? Then again, it wouldn't be the first time.

Anyway, with all of the hyperbolic propping I have been seeing regarding some of these UDFA's like Millard Bradford, Tipton, Holker, etc., either the Saints are really good at finding these guys, or these writers are really bored. However, I am certainly going to be watching this guy at TC.

Is he related to John Beresford Tipton?

I'm not saying this to denigrate the kid's ability or chances of sticking in the League, but did anyone else notice how much his highlight clip seemed to be "Catch ball, fall down"? LOL

I noticed, he reminds me of Cooks and the rookie version of Chris Olave.

The QB has a lot to do with keeping a WR on his feet. The better QBs in the league are good at that.

Found another article/interview. His demeanor stands out to me, very professional. I went back and looked at his highlights and he plays cocky like, dare I say it, Steve Smith?

You can tell he expects to come dow with every ball and that the defender is just a small obstacle i the way of that end goal.

Coming from Yale one would also assume he’s an intelligent young man that may be able to out leverage other guys by being able to know the playbook in and out.

I’m more intrigued now than I was yesterday.

A great story and good luck to the man…but looking at the video he didn’t have the separation I thought I’d see from a 4.33/40 guy given the level of competition.

Just posted a write-up on this guy. I basically noticed the same things you just posted from watching a lot of his highlight clips. Tipton is very fast and has good hands. I believe if he would have had a better QB throwing to him, he would have been drafted rather than being signed URFA. Thanks for the extra information on him.
