They promise fewer nightmares

Good cast. Curious what the CGI will look like

Excited what they'll do with 4 hours to play with
====================================================

It was the film that traumatised a generation of children, with its much-loved rabbit characters slain on screen in graphic and memorable scenes.

But the story of Watership Down is to be remade for a new era, as programme-makers promise to tone down its most brutal images.

The BBC has teamed up with Netflix for one of the most expensive mini-series ever made for the small screen, and the first animated four-part drama of its kind.

BBC remake Watership Down with less violence to avoid 'scarring' children

Loved the first movie.

It was required reading in high school. I haven't watched the movie version, but don't remember it as a children's story at all. :covri:

I saw it when I was about 11 or 12 and just really starting to think that cartoon's were kiddie stuff. This changed my mind. I absolutely loved it.
Disappointing that they want to take the literal and proverbial teeth out of it. But I'll still give it a chance.

Anyone know anything about the premiere date of this?

Everything I've seen just says 2017

We're quickly running out of 2017

I'm really looking forward to this and hope it airs soon

I read the book and saw the movie. I'll for sure give it a shot.

I always wondered why a cartoon was so disturbing. I never want to see it again. I still have disturbing images ingrained in me from the first time I watched it when I was a kid. I've never watched it again. I can still see bunnies getting ambushed and ripped to shreds decades later.

Did anyone watch this?

Watched it last night. Definitely kept it under pg rating for violence. Little slow in the middle episodes but not bad overall.

This was an exceedingly violent cartoon. The tone was like nothing I was expecting as a kid. I did not enjoy it. I rewatched it as an adult and the sentiment remained.

When Watership Down was first released in 1978, the film’s director, Martin Rosen, insisted the image featured on its promotional poster should warn viewers that this was no cutesy cartoon about some bunnies.

“I reckoned a mother with a sensitive child would see a rabbit in a snare with blood coming out its mouth and reckon, ‘Well, maybe this isn’t for Charlie – it’s a little too tough,’” he has said.

Despite his concern – and the fact the animated movie includes blood-soaked visions, slavering, murderous predators and a rabbit having its throat ripped open – British film classifiers awarded it a U rating, suggesting it was suitable even for very young children.

Early viewers did not agree – and there is an entire generation for whom the gentle opening bars of Art Garfunkel’s theme song Bright Eyes will always evoke horrifying visions of bloodthirsty lapine massacre.

Now, 45 years later, the British Board of Film Classification has reviewed its opinion of a movie that has been called “a one-way ticket to post-traumatic stress disorder” after a resubmission. It has been reclassified as a PG, on account, the organisation said, of its “mild violence, threat, brief bloody images and bad language”.……

I loved the book when I read it as a kid, but I barely remember the movie at all. I just remember my brother and I thought it was very weak in comparison (was too young at the time to know that's true 95+% of the time when a book becomes a film).

I'll take a look at the BBC version. To tell the truth, I don't remember much of the book anymore, either. I've slept quite a bit since then...
