When Gayle Benson considers what changes in the Saints organization should be made, she might be thinking for a moment about her other franchise and what changes with the Pelicans organization may need to be made after its season.
The question is which organization will see the greater degree of change after its season--the Saints or the Pelicans. I am going to say the Saints. We know there will be a new head coach and coaching staff. There may be changes in the personnel department. The big question is whether Loomis stays as general manager. But for his personal relationship with Gayle Benson, he would stand little chance of surviving the debacle of the last three years. But he does have that relationship.
With the Pelicans, the questions are whether David Griffith and Willie Green survive. The Pelicans do have a core of good players. They have actually drafted well in recent years. The problem has been Zion and Ingram not playing because of injury. This will be Ingram's last year in New Orleans. My guess is that Zion returns for another season because his potential dwarfs his current trade value, which has fallen. With a high lottery pick, the Pelicans next season could be a playoff team.
Bottom line: Of the two franchises, the Saints are the crown jewels and are in worse shape than the Pels. Again, my guess is the answer to the question is the Saints.
