Before getting started, Prayers and Well Wishes be with all those in Florida who were in the path of Hurricane Milton.
Week 6 is Bye Week for KC, MIA, LAR, and MIN
As the NFL enters Week 6 two teams remain unbeaten, the Chiefs and the Vikings. Only 2 teams have a 2-game lead in their division, KC and HOU with Minny holding a game and a half lead over DET. Otherwise, 5 out of the other 8 divisions are either tied up or they are separated by just a single game. To that point, there are a few teams that have begun to separate themselves from the pack while a good portion of the league is still within striking distance in their respective divisions. On the flip side, there are 7 teams that have only won 1 game through 5 weeks. That's over one-fifth of the teams in the league sitting at 1-4 after 30% of the season has been played. Yet 5 of those 1-4 teams are only 2 games out from the lead in their divisions. So, it's still possible for some of the worst teams in the league to turn it around and make a play for either their division or the playoffs. A few probably will, but most won't. NFL Parity.
The Saints are coming off of a brutal loss in which they were outplayed in all 3 phases of the game. With the rash of injuries to the team and coming off of back to back last minute losses not many people really expected the Saints to go on the road and get a win against the undefeated defending champs in primetime on MNF. And right on cue, they didn't. Worse than the loss itself, the Saints suffered further significant injuries, to both Derek Carr and Will Harris. The Saints injury report continues to look like a mash unit with 9 players who did not practice on Wednesday. Before panic sets in, keep in mind that Wednesday is usually a day where some players take off as a veteran day and it's still early in the week, so it's possible and likely that several of those players will return to practice and play this Sunday. With that being said, the Saints find themselves in a near must win this Sunday against TB. A win would thrust them back into a possible tie for 1st place in the division, at worst a game out with ATL. A loss would put the Saints 2 games out and possibly by both ATL and TB with also having a loss to both in HTH matchups. And then there is that 4 game skid to avoid. The Saints haven't suffered a 4 game losing streak under CDA. Getting a win this week is not only important to the record and overall standings, but also to the psyche of the entire organization. Just Win Baby!
Out of the ashes New Hope Arises. The Saints 5th round draft choice, Rookie QB Spencer Rattler, has been named the Starting QB this Sunday against TB. Many of the Saints faithful are anxious to see what he can do in his debut. There hasn't been this much excitement from middle age potbellied men since the invention of the little blue pill. Talk about rattling your snake. Hopefully Rattler rises to the occasion. When time expires Sunday in the Superdome the most important thing is that the Saints got a win. If they can manage that, the excitement next Thursday Night with SP coming back to the Dome will be on par with a Playoff Game. I might need a Vicodin or something to calm my nerves.
Thursday Night Football
SF (2-3) @ SEA (3-2) - This is a huge NFC West matchup for early control and the lead in the division. The Saints don't play either team in the regular season this year. This could be viewed as a tossup game, but you have to accept somebody will win that division which I think will be competitive amongst each other as the season moves forward. I'd rather see the Hags pickpocket the 9ers this week and drop them to a 2-4 record early in the season. Go Gulls!
Sunday Morning Football
JAX (1-4) vs. CHI (3-2) - An early morning kickoff from across the pond where Goldilocks will take on the Anointed One in an interconference matchup. No better time for the Werewolves of London to rip the lungs out of Him.
Sunday Noon Football
WAS (4-1) @ BAL (3-2) - JD5 is already running away with ROY and at the current pace he's on he could be the league MVP. What an incredible story and start to the season by not only Jayden but the entire group of Commandos. Under other circumstances and maybe in future weeks to come I'd be glad to see the guys wearing Headdresses do their thing, but not this week. It's a good week to bring them back down to earth. I'm looking forward to seeing Lamar Jackson Moonwalking his way to winning the dancing contest and King Henry taking charge of his troops in our Nation's Capital City. Saints host WAS in Week15 just over 2 months from now. That'll be a fun one in the Dome.
ARZ (2-3) @ GB (3-2) - An NFC matchup. The Redbirds have flashed in a few early games this season but have also been grounded. Even with MH, Jr. showing he belongs and Murray back in form I don't thinks it's in the Cards in the long run for them to be a contender at years end. I do think the Pack could be even though their division is better across the board than in years past. Saints host GB in Week 16, two days before Christmas. I'm for the boys from Zona.
HOU (4-1) @ NE (1-4) - An AFC matchup between two team heading in different directions. C.J. Stroud continues to show he is one of the better QBs in the league and only in his 2nd season. Don't mess with the Texans. They have more going on than just their young signal caller. Meanwhile it's looking like another bottom of the league year for the Pats. What's crazy is they are only 2 games out of 1st place in their division. They have reason for excitement this week. Their #1 draft choice QB Drake Maye gets his first NFL start this week. It would make for an interesting story if he were to play well and lead his team to a win and make a push for that division. Color me Red, White, and Blue!
CLE (1-4) @ PHI (2-2) - This week would be a great time for Dr. Watson to operate with more than his hands. The Iggles are coming off of an early Bye. It would be great to see them drop this one. Saints host Brownies Week 11.
IND (2-3) @ TEN (1-3) - An AFC South matchup. Neither team has looked very good so far. I think the Colts have the better team. Saints play neither this season. I'm far the Colts in this one just to see their division be competitive.
TB (3-2) @ NO (2-3) - A huge division matchup for both teams this week. With Rattler getting his 1st NFL Career Start there will be 5 Rookie QBs starting this week for the 1st time this season. The Saints need this one badly. Who Dat!
Sunday Late Afternoon Football
LAC (2-2) @ DEN (3-2) - An AFC West matchup. This should be a good one with local interests here. The Saints play both this season in back-to-back weeks, with DEN coming to NOLA next Thursday Night and then the Saints travel to the west coast in Week 8 to play the LAC. The Chargers are coming off of their Bye week and are well rested. This game features two Oregon Ducks at QB in a faceoff. Both teams have shown some weaknesses early in the season. Harbaugh is going to want to go into Mile High and dominate. The Broncos have had trouble scoring. I think I'd rather the Bolts un-shoe the Horsemen and demoralize them so that they don't come here next week full of confidence.
PITT (3-2) @ LV (2-3) - An AFC matchup. The Saints don't play the Steelers this season, but they do play the Raiders, hosting them in Week 17. I'd like to see Fields continue his reclamation journey while watching the Raiders of the Lost Ark have a meltdown. There's also that thing about a possible trade of Davante Adams. A big blowout loss this week could accelerate some movement in Sin City. They are taking a hit on 17 one way or the other. Time for them to fold.
ATL (3-2) @ CAR (1-4) - An NFC South matchup. The Clowns are coming off of back-to-back miracle wins. They have the more talented roster but haven't shown to be all that as a team. They could just as easy be sitting at 1-4 right now. Maybe this isn't the automatic "W" that most think it will be. The Pansies are playing at home and the Red Riffle is giving it his best shot. The Saints still play each team again this season. Get those claws out and scratch out a win.
DET (3-1) @ DAL (3-2) - An NFC matchup. Both teams have a long Roe to Hoe ahead of them schedule wise. The NFC North will most likely produce at least 2 playoff teams. I'd rather the Cryboys take their licks this week in this one.
Sunday Night Football
CIN (1-4) @ NYG (2-3) - The Bengals are on life support while the Giants have actually shown some life so far in 2024. Saints host the G-Men in Week 14. I'm all for Joe to Chase the Blues away. No need to be a good Nabor!
Monday Night Football
BUF (3-2) @ NYJ (2-3) - An AFC East showdown up north. Saints play neither this season. If you ask me, the Bills coaching is somewhat suspect while the Jets had their coach escorted out of the building this week. I'm all for Josh Allen to put on a great show under the big lights. A big loss for the J-E-T-S this week could have them nosediving and on a crash and burn course in the Adams sweepstakes. Show me the Buffalo eating some Wild Wings.
Anyone have any thoughts or want to see different outcomes in any of these games?
