I was talking with someone about the saints earlier and a really attractive name came up. How about adaleus thomas from the ravens? really solid DE/LB (i believe he plays both) and he is from alabama and went to southern miss so he has got southern ties. just a thought.

Doesn't really fit the team. I would expect some 3-4 teams to push hard to get him.

Personally I would just like to see our big free agents locked up, Charles Grant, Jon Stinchcomb and Hollis Thomas. Then get a corner like Asante Samuel and sign a veteran MLBer like Donnie Edwards. Obviously some mid-range FA's. Fill in a couple defensive holes with free agency (CB, MLB), get our guys back and prepare yourself for a good draft with a number of early draft picks.

Baltimore plays a 4-3 as their base.

Thomas would be a great pickup. I guess his most natural position is OLB, but has played MLB and even safety. (he would be better than any of our OLBs anyway)

Lemieux is correct though, his value is higher for a 3-4 team needing an OLB. He'll move out of our "acceptable" price range pretty quickly.

Yeah and no. Baltimore plays a mixture of both. Granted their base defense is a 4-3, but they show so many different fronts. They still play their linebackers much like you would in a 3-4.

I believe we need to find a good veteran QB, Martin is at his 12 season and I dont see him filling the role of backup to much longer. I dont think we should fill his position from the draft, since Brees has 5 more years with us, that should wait until Brees' last two years and grab someone from the draft. In case, something were to happen to Brees within the next 4 years we need a vet as a backup. Just my two-cents worth.

Well he's not exactly Brad Johnson in terms of age.

We're fine for now at QB. I think Martin fits the type offense we have (dink and dunk and then go with the long pass).

I myself would love to find a proven CB in free agency.

I still shriek when I think of Alex Molden being picked over Eddie George.

I don't trust first round DBs to either develop quickly or sometimes not at all.

If you want an immediate impact player next year, you draft a stud like Posluszny or Willis, both of whom could play MLB or OLB. They can make our defense better in 2007.

I would sign Grant. I only sign Thomas if it's fair value. Remember he's getting old. If he costs too much, then you have choices like moving Grant to DT and playing Ninkovich at DE, and of course drafting either another DT or DE in the 2nd round.

Draft a TE in the 3rd round. There will be a couple of good ones still remaining.

The 2nd pick of the 3rd round could be another LB or an O-lineman. Then after that you just get depth. If a good QB (e.g., Kolb) is left remaining in rounds 4-7, I say go for it.

Asante Samuel has my vote also.
