Every week especially when we lose we hear on here or even from the players and fans of the other team that we were their Super Bowl. Last time I checked we haven't been defending SB champs since 2010.

Even if the other team faces, for example this year, Seattle or Denver we still are somehow their Super Bowl. Is it just justification for a loss or poor play on our part? Or their part?

I just do not get it......why the hell was Seattle not our Super Bowl knowing the importance of the game. I feel like it is a cop out. Every game in the NFL is important and should be treated as such.

Thoughts?

Geaux Saints and win this week!!!

We aren't.

It's something people say to excuse the good play of others and bad play on our part.

The Rams did not think we were their Super Bowl. They'd of much rather beat Seattle or the 49ers I'm sure.

It's not that we're everyone's superbowl, opponents know they will typically have to be on their "A" game going up against one of the top offenses. So for the most part, the other teams seem to be very focused/motivated against us, plus we have gone up against quite a few good defenses.

On the other side of things, our offense hasn't really been elite this year like in years past where we could typically score at will.

The only team who's players I've heard say that was Atlanta.

But I do think teams play up against us and sometimes throw everything and the kitchen sink at us. If you don't think the Rams played all out to beat us and had an ax to grind with the whole Rob Ryan episode, you're kidding yourself. That on-sides kick alone should tell you that.

But we should take that as a sign of respect. If we weren't any good, nobody would care much, aside from it being another win (sort of like our whole history before 2009). The fact that every team we play really wants to beat us (I'm mean really, really wants to beat us), just means that we're in the upper echelon of teams in the NFL.

Still, none of that is an excuse for our poor performances/no shows in New York, Seattle and St. Louis.

i can gurantee no one said we were Seattles superbowl on here but for a team like the falcons it would be bc a win against us would mean something other than just a W

I feel like every defense we play wants the opportunity to shut Drew Brees & our "powerful" offense down.

Honest answer?

Because it makes people feel better when we lose if we say "Oh well it was XYZ's Super Bowl -- they were playing their guts out just to beat us on a bad day."

That's debatable considering they pulled out an onside kick when they were up 14-0. Fisher wanted to stick it to us after Rob decided to go with us instead of them.

Only ATL said we were their SB. Totally disagree with your premise

Or that he wanted to gain another possession and have an opportunity to put us further into a hole before half... plus with the way we were moving the ball and giving away turnovers, there wasn't a ton of risk

Anytime I read "last time I checked" I hear it in the voice of the timecists from South Park

"Last time I checked" should be changed to "I haven't researched anything but I'm about to voice my opinion!"

Today a Redskin fan explained to me that Saint have been very good for a long time now. This is something I did not notice to that level.

We are now considered one of those perennial good teams.

Apparently we have been at the top of the pack long enough that other teams fans want to see us knocked off.

That is a much better place to be in then the position we had in the 90s.
