After the draft, still feel like they could use another DE, maybe OT, maybe a WR...
I don't know if its possible with the salary cap?

FYI, it doesn't affect the salary cap. They make chump change and are not anywhere close to the top 51 contracts that count toward the salary cap.

We just have to cap out at 90 players at any one time in camp before the cut downs start to happen in preseason.

I figured out based on who we currently have under contract that we can take 21 UDFAs without making cuts. But then the draft choices start getting signed, more FAs maybe get signed, and then the UDFAs have to be cut down to make room, or a veteran.

I think we currently have 14 UDFAs. I don't think we are finished. Probably 2-3 more will be signed.

I think we may go after Abraham.

Teams have been waiting for after the draft, but we'll likely see the signings of Abraham and Charles Woodson over the next few weeks. The question is where they go.

I'd love to see us sign both tbh, and release/trade Harper

Likelihood of cutting Harper is probably less than 5 percent.

Maybe after June 1st, but I still doubt it.

In regards to the WR, don't forget we still have a host of WRs signed right now (Fayson, Givins, Hakim, Parker, Tanner) that stand a much better chance at making the team than a UDFA. And given the fact we're probably only looking at 1 WR spot to fight for, that would be out of Stills and the guys I just listed. If you believe Toon and Roby locks up the 4th and 5th spots, which is obviously debatable.

Throw in another pipdream of Tyson Clabo or Eric Winston, and work that into that cap and Loomis would have out done himself this year :hihi:.

ILB Karlos Dansby would be a huge upgrade to the defense, probably the biggest move we could make to improve the team at this point. Might be affordable as no teams have jumped to sign him yet.

Other than that, OT Eric Winston is the only other appealing FA

just for fun, we could add TE Dallas Clark in case Graham ever went down (god forbid). Clark would likely work very well with Brees although I very much doubt this will happen.

I don't think he said 90 was too many. He mentioned 90 and that was the reason they signed a 4th QB.
I did a rough count at 89. Not sure if it is right or not. That was counting the Drafted and undrafted rookies. Only the top 53 count against the cap. As the drafted rookies get signed then we will see some cuts in the undrafted rookies. They could probably get 1 or 2 more. They may also sign a vet but they would most likely need to restructure or cut a vet to get one not sure though.

We can afford several vets if we designate Harper as a June 1st cut. It would free up around 5 million off of this years cap. Plus with the new CBA we can do it at any time, do not have to wait till June 1st. The facts are he does not fit the defense we will be running. How many sacks did the cowboys safeties have the last couple of years? It's not a Greg Williams defense, the safeties have to be able to cover and make plays. That's why we drafted a safety that can do that. We can use the extra cap room to improve our team with vet free agents, to help resign Jimmy Graham, or roll over to next year since we are already over next years cap.
