I’ve seen some posters speculate that it’ll be Howden, but I’m not so sure the rookie is ready.

Do we see Jonathan Abram get signed from the PS? JT Gray?

Is it possible PJ Williams comes out of nowhere?

It’s a big deal.. the defense has been very solid, and Maye has been a solid part of that. Losing him could negatively impact the chemistry of the D.

I’m going to guess it’ll be a fluid two safety set w no real definite FS in order to keep Love on his toes trying to force that split second hesitation for the DL the get home.

I’m also gonna guess that Honey Badger will be playing high safety in many of these situations due to his experience and first hand knowledge of both safety positions in order to avoid the deep threat at bay as much as possible.

To further answer your question less directly, I think it’ll be a couple situational players along side Honey Badger instead of just one dude taking over FS.

Howden, Johnson and Amadi all played safety in the preseason. They knew this was coming. So they’ve been preparing them. Howden may have taken more 1st team reps than the other guys though.
Exactly. They've know this was coming and they've had plenty of time to plan accordingly. We'll see if their plan works but I trust DA when it comes to defense, especially the Secondary. It's like the late great George Michael said, "I gotta have faith".

It'll be interesting to see how Howden performs over the next three weeks. If he strings together three strong games, along with development thereafter in his dime snaps, Maye may wind up going the way of Robbie next year.

The coaches are said to be very high on Howden. Heck, if he somehow manages three spectacular games coming up, knowing how high the coaches are on him, he could supplant Maye sooner than next year.

Howden's draft preview reports are unimpressive. Clearly the coaches see something. What skills can we expect from him? Rangy? Hard-hitting? Ball skills?

It's not going to be a practice squad guy or PJ Williams, I can tell you that. Howden's been getting actual game time in weeks 1 & 2. I'm sure Amadi will get playing time as well. JT Gray's a special teamer, not a starting-caliber DB. I'd guess Abram gets elevated to the active roster, but he won't be starting.

And while Howden didn't make INTs in his double-digit snaps in weeks 1 or 2, I didn't notice him blowing coverages or frequently getting beat, either. I think DBs are sort of similar to OLs in this regard. If they're on the field and you're not noticing them, that's often a good thing.

The rookie is ready.

I hope we never have to see Abram play snaps for us this year.
