John Doe's latest disc was really good.

Sounds like the 930 Club (DC) or Ramshead (Annapolis/Baltimore) to me. I may be able to pull off the two-hour drive depending on when the show is. I would think they'd be close by since John Doe grew up in Baltimore. Frank Zappa, another Baltimore/Belair native RIP. "Watch out where the huskies go...."of course, no where near here.
John Doe came through N.O. a year or so ago but I was out of town. I heard it was a killer show. Sure hope they add N.O. Or at least wait to add DC until after I move back up.
Meant to post this last week, has it already been a week?
Good news!
They announced that they are going to be in New Orleans on May 31st @ House of Blues!
How was the show, you ask?
Answer:
If you like X, GO SEE!
Those old farts (and fartress?) can still turn it on.
It really was one of the best shows I have seen in a while. I did not expect them to sound that good.

They played a lot of old stuff. Quality of the sound was incredible. Thanks for the update. Did they play any newer stuff? We watched X's brief SxSW showcase on DirecTV and thought they sounded really good--not an easy thing to do given how much trouble all the bands were having with the sound at the Austin venues. In fact I think Exene's singing might be better now than ever. Which may or may not be a good thing, depending how much you treasure the unique harmony of her rather, uh, approximate melodies against John's more conventionally excellent rock voice.
We really enjoyed the TV concert, but we were struck that they didn't perform any song younger than about 18 years old. In the longer concert you saw, did they do any stuff from John's recent albums? We're thinking about going to see them in Hollywood next month but hope it's not just an oldies show--I'm lucky enough to have seen X a few times in their heyday. (On the other hand, at one of those shows they're paired with "The Head Cat" featuring Lemmy Kilmister so maybe it doesn't matter!)
