You are the owner, unfortunately you decided to hold on to Dennis Allen one more year. What do you do? (1 Viewer)

Me.

First of all, I will get rid of Pete Carmichael

Tell Loomis to interview the top offensive coordinators who are willing to interview with the Saints.

After you get offensive coordinator.

Tell Loomis to start trimming the fat off of the salary cap. Yes you can kick the can on certain players, but other older players, just try to get whatever trade value out of them and then take the initial hit for this year.

Ex. Mike Thomas, take best offer and let go. Cut the safeties. ( I don't know the specifics of each player on the cap, but I'm of the mindset just go ahead and take the pain for 2024 cap and prepare for a better cap in 2025.

Accumulate as many draft picks as possible with your trades.

In the draft, unless a stud offensive lineman or big nose tackle drops to 14, I say trade down and get additional pics.

Use all your accumulated pics to fill in the holes of cut players.

If Dennis Allen can win 2024 with these players and a reduced cap, then great

If he can't, at least you set up 2025 for the new coach and a high draft pick, with lower cap space to boot.

This is Dennis Allen's prove it year.

It might suck for us, but better take the pain now then be mediocre the next couple years.

What would you do?

(Besides fire Dennis Allen because we all want that )

I would let the entire staff know they're jobs were on the lines. Any less than a division title and a playoff win in 2024 is grounds for termination. This entire staff would also include Loomis. I would also let DA make his own decisions on the 2024 coaching staff. It's his sword to fall on.

This season was already that.

Everything else is just excuses and justifications giving this guy yet another mulligan. Protest, put up a billboard, but don’t accept it. The discourse by this fanbase needs to continue to be centered around getting rid of DA, if we’re counting on the FO they’ll just keep doing what they’re doing.

As the owner? I would tell Dennis L. that if we don't make the playoffs and win our division next year, let everyone know we'll have new leaders in our facility for 2025. Sit back and enjoy the easy life.

I don’t think a fire sale is the route if you’re going to keep your HC, unless you’re planning on giving him a mulligan for next year, too. So, we would have to be careful how much fat we trim in regards to cap hit.

The thread title reminds me of the old “You make the call” commercials featuring NFL Films voice and longtime sports announcer Harry Kalas. I think they were sponsored by Alcoa. They showed a scenario during the game and asked viewers what the right call on the field was. I imagine there’s too many bad calls and no-calls in the NFL now to make that work 😁

In the case of Mrs. Benson, the challenge would be, okay, if you like Dennis personally too much to fire him, then find a scenario where his offense doesn’t suck so bad in the red zone for 3/4 of the season. (By the time this offense strung two decent games together, it was just about too late).

You can’t cut and trade everyone and put together a patchwork team and not give the coach an additional season afterwards.

My take? Bring back everyone DA wants back, tell him he has to patch things up with Lattimore, trade down in the 1st (assuming Daniels nor Penix is there) and accumulate multiple extra picks, then bring in as much young talent as possible. Tell DA anything less than 5-3 at the halfway point of the season gets you fired.

His first two years, I gave him the players that he wants.

This year is a prove it year for him.
So I look at players that I can take a hit on for 2024 and will be off the books for 2025 and determine which wants to cut.

While I'm also trimming the fat of as many high-priced oft injured players as possible and see what draft picks I can get.
Let him replace our cut players with cheaper talent and work with that.

So the players not only ignore DA's specific orders, but openly defied him in the postgame media. And not just the backup soon to be free agent Winston, but Jordan, Olave, Kamara, McCoy, Ruiz, Davis and many others.

Keeping him is unbelievable, yet here we are, having to believe it.

I let him ride it out in 2024 with what he has, but I don't add anymore contract extensions to game the salary cap. He said today in his press conference that we're close. Cool, draft the right guys, cut whoever you want, maybe sign a few bargain basement free agents, and make it all work within the cap. If he can win under those circumstances, great, if not, fire him and move on. He and Loomis have lost the right to use my credit card until I see results. I think that's more than fair.

Roll it one more year.

Get some Line depth..
replace some hard names with young talent

If it is same ole same ole.. you get rid of what you got at coaching and move on.

Continuity is a big part of the NFL.. and sure it took months for this team to gel.. with this weak training camps we have now.. weak pre-season schedule etc..

Move on from MT.. try to get Nabers in the first... imo.. I think Nabers Shaheed and Olave would be at top 5 WR group.
