15 years ago when "The Real World" came out and I was a teenager I thought it was a pretty cool show to catch every once in a while. Then in the early 2000's we had Survivor and Big Brother pop up. I thought these too were cool shows for a while. Then we see an avalanche of reality shows.

We got American Idol, 15 difference dance competition shows, The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, Joe Millionaire, The Simple Life, The Surreal Life etc, etc, etc. ENOUGH!!

To see how out of hand this genre is see the list here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_reality_television_programs

Then you have shows that make absolutely no sense and have no point. The shows I loathe more than all others: Laguna Beach, The Hills, and the like. Who wants to watch a bunch of spoiled rotten trust fund babies complain about how "unfair" life is?

Are our lives so boring and incomplete we have to watch other people lives for entertainment? The game show one's I can somewhat deal with, but who cares what Paris Hilton, Bobby Brown, Flava-Flav, Kim K, Kimora Simmons, or any of these other people are doing? It's ridiculous.

I honestly get to the point where I get aggravated with my wife, mom, and MIL because they watch this visual refuse.

I am really hoping this crap fades before long. I don't know how much more Jon and Kate I can take.

What say you? Are you tired of the reality TV craze or can you not get enough?

it needs to go the way of WWF and Nascar - other "entertainment" propped up by product placement and deed-seated viewer feelings of inferiority

I'll admit, I watch Survivor, Amazing Race and Hell's Kitchen. Those are the only ones I watch. Some of the reality show ideas have been really stupid, I think they will eventually run their course, just like mini-series did in the 80's and 90's.

I want to see a resurgence of the mini series, actually.

When it comes to reality shows I'll watch a few. Maybe Top Chef or the occasional episode of Cops, Intervention or The First 48 Hours. But most reality shows make me want to gag.

Reality shows...a way for the most undeserving people in the world to milk far more than their 15 minutes of fame...I feel it's been enough...Look at the channel Bravo...it's nothing like it used to be because of reality tv shows...There was a time it was a good channel...

Some are ok, IMO. But I think for me, the overload of all the reality shows makes me loathe the entire genre. And I therefore dislike shows I would normally enjoy, such as survivor.

They have never actually been "reality".

They are not real. Other than the fact that the partcipants are not trained actors, they are still selected through an audition process and the cast is assembled to maximize drama and conflict.

It's still loosely scripted, so reality is quite accurate.

The formula has run its course bit as long as people keep watching it's a boon to studios because they don't have to pay a lot to the cast or to script writers.

Profit margins are high.

Or how about when "Music Television" actually played music? :covri: Terrible.
