I am in a 12 team yahoo league. The autodraft was today & I got a pretty good team (Tom Brady QB, Jamal Lewis RB, Willie Parker RB, Marques Colston WR among others).

I have been offered a straight up trade: Jeremy Shockey for Jason Witten.

BTW...it's a Cowboy fan offering Shockey.

Any opinions?

I won't tell you what to do .....but think about this.

Who turned Antonio Gates into a super star???

the health of Shockey should be your only concern .....if you do trade find a decent back up to him

Fantasy zombie has spoken!!!!

Witten is valued higher than shockey. Not saying they will not have similiar number but Witten is going as the #1 TE in a lot of leagues because of Gates injury. I would ask for something more or turn down the trade. Maybe an upgrade at WR. take one of your guys that might be a #3 WR and add him to the trade and get a #2 WR from him. THat should make it even.

I see it as trading apples for apples. The only difference is that Shockey has a higher risk because of his injury. If he wants Witten so bad, make him give you a backup player from his team that you could use on your team. Try to upgrade whatever your weakest position is if you accept this trade.

I say no only cause witten will catch 90 balls also is going to line up and play some reciever too.

who is to say that payton won't have shockey lined up as a WR sometimes???

Do not make that trade. Jason Witten had 96 rec for 1145 yds and 7 tds last year. Shockeys best totals ever for those stats was 74 rec in 2002, 894 yds in 2002, and 7 tds in 05 and 06. Jason Wittens 4 year average in those stats is 78 rec, 909 yds and 5 tds. In other words, Witten has averaged for 4 years better numbers than Shockeys best ever single seasons in both yds and rec. Witten has also not missed one single game over those 4 years. We all hope Shockey has a huge year, and yes he is easily a number 1 caliber fantasy TE, but Witten is THE number 1 fantasy TE. Anybody who tells you that you should take Shockey straight up for Witten as if it is an even trade is either letting homerism cloud their judgement or they are a fantasy football novice. You should send a counter offer with that guy throwing in a player at a position you feel you are weak at and see how he responds or either reject the trade outright. Now if you are playing just for fun and dont care too much about winning then sure, go for it. Having your favorite players is fun, and you may even get lucky and have a great team. But if you have any intention of winning your league then there is no way you can make that trade. Ever. Period. Plus you will be helping a Cowboys fan have a better chance of winning and thats just terrible.

If he's a Cowboys fan, make him overpay for Witten. Who are his RBs? I would try and do a package deal of Willie Parker/Witten for Shockey/RB if it is a stud RB. Parker's value isn't as high this year with Mendenhall possibly stealing some GL carries, etc.

That's gonna be a trade where the value is similar enough that you might only be able to squeeze out an upgrade in a kicker or defense. You should not make that trade straight up though.

I agree I think if you can get something a little better along with Shockey that will make your team better do it.
