Some sub human slime in Tehachipi caught a lady's cat then cut off most of its fur doused it with lighter fluid and set it on fire. The cat made it home and will probably live. It made the news so now the State police are looking for the criminal as well as local police. Which is nice.

What do you think should happen to people who do things like that? Are they insane or just evil or does it matter?

This person definately has a screw loose. I hope this crime is considered a felony where it occured. Anyone who abuses or mistreats an animal is in my book a waste of human flesh.

I heard the maximum penalties. The maximum fine is $20,000 but I dont exactly remember the maximum time in State prison. It was either 1 or 5 years I think

That definitely fits the bill as aggravated cruelty, and I hope it is prosecuted as such.

If I was to tell you that dozens of cattle on the West Bank of Jefferson Parish have starved to death, drowned in canals (due to no access to water), and died of malnutrition and exhaustion in the last 6 months would you think the owner is guilty of cruelty as well? According to Louisiana law, such acts are not aggravated - intentional and direct acts of cruelty - rather simple - as a result of non-action - cruelty to animals. Do you think the owner is insane or evil in that case?

For what it is worth, I would like to see ALL aggravated animal cruelty cases require jail time, along with a lifetime ban from owning or keeping ANY animals. For simple cruelty I think discretion is needed, but I lean toward still seeing them serve some time, and not merely pay fines.

Not only do they do it to the animal, but the owner might be a young child or a little old lady. I'm for throwing the book at them.

You gotta address the criminal now. Put the offender in prison and get him psychological help. Otherwise, one day it won't be animals that he's torturing and mutilating.

I saw her interviewed. She looks to be late 20s and not unattractive. Dunno if she has kids. She did break down and cry when talking about it.

Yes - Often Sadistic killers have been found to have "practiced" on animals. Most often while they were only children or young adults

I'm not a supporter of cruelty to animals or anything, but to be clear this does not mean that every person who is cruel to animals is a sadistic serial killer in the making.

It does mean you have serious empathy and social awareness problems. It doesn't mean you will become a serial killer, but it does mean you have a fundamental personality disorder that enables you to cross lines others would not.

As horrible and lacking in empathy as Vick and dogfighters goes (and I agree that's plain awful) the kind of stuff described in the OP goes a step beyond IMHO. It's the difference between men shooting someone in anger and pulling off someone's fingers with a pair of pliers just to see what that's like. It's a special kind of deranged to be that cruel just for the very sake of the cruelty itself.

At least the thugs who go out in boats & hide & then blow the **** out of little ducks are applying some class to their thuggery & helping to hand down lifelong memories which are wrapped in a cultural "ah sure havent we been doin this here for years" chrome covered nostalgia bravado shyte.

I found this out when in the thread about Brees & Daniels going hunting & posting pictures of it the other day.
