What is considered to be chump change,in regard to the NFL?FYI, it doesn't affect the salary cap. They make chump change and are not anywhere close to the top 51 contracts that count toward the salary cap.
We just have to cap out at 90 players at any one time in camp before the cut downs start to happen in preseason.
I figured out based on who we currently have under contract that we can take 21 UDFAs without making cuts. But then the draft choices start getting signed, more FAs maybe get signed, and then the UDFAs have to be cut down to make room, or a veteran.
I think we currently have 14 UDFAs. I don't think we are finished. Probably 2-3 more will be signed.
I bet we cut Harper and sign Clabo June 1
don't hold your breath. Harper's salary is all dead money. There is no cap savings for cutting him. The only reason we would do so is for the roster spot.
Not true. I believe there would be about a $5 million savings
That would be the true cash savings, but with the prorated bonuses, I think the cap savings would be about $1 million (or about $4 million this year if a June 1 cut (but $3 million added onto next year's cap)).
Saints SS Roman Harper received a $2.6 million guarantee on his 2013 base salary when the team kept him on its roster through March.
Harper's full base salary is $5.25 million, but the Saints would now take a cap hit to cut him. Thursday's first-round selection of FS Kenny Vaccaro doesn't necessarily mean Harper will be released, despite rampant speculation he might be. The Saints now seem more likely to keep three safeties, perhaps starting Vaccaro and Malcolm Jenkins. Vaccaro would cover the slot in obvious passing situations, with Harper coming onto the field for a three-safety set.
Not anymore:
I truly don't understand this-unless they are going to essentially use Harper like a rush linebacker next year.
I think we may go after Abraham.
Teams have been waiting for after the draft, but we'll likely see the signings of Abraham and Charles Woodson over the next few weeks. The question is where they go.
I'd love to see us sign both tbh, and release/trade Harper
If the Saints had 1 more signing left in them...i would rather see them go after James Harrison than John Abraham.
