I can see the feds spending money on it, as they are laying out a lot of money on that front. Moderna having never brought anything to market before is playing a huge risk. But, from the snippet that was publicly released, the side effects were mild and it did provide an immune response even at lower doses which were for the most part free of anything besides run of the mill mild reactions. Like I said, I’m hopeful. With Enough family members in a high risk category, I’m very hopeful this works.

So there was a protest in New Orleans that shutdown portions of the I-10 last night. We're going to learn one of two things.

1. The summer climate has a big effect on spread and we dont get a pre-fall 2nd wave spike around the country. We already know the role Mardi Gras played with covid19.

2. The virus isnt as hindered as it was claimed and the spike is catastrophic.

Either way, the governnents are in for a nasty storm regardless. If there is mass community spread, they'll be asked why they allowed protests in a violent pandemic. If there is very little spread, the lockdowns will become heavily criticized and Dr.Fauci will be ran out of town.

I'm almost positive it is #1, lots of evidence suggests it.

It's a good question and I don't really know the answer. But that won't stop me from speculating. :)

I recall seeing something about how the virus mostly spreads from "super spreader" events. Basically a large gathering of people in close proximity where an infected person is present. Mardi Gras, as many suspected, may have been exactly that. Our neighboring states didn't have that super spreader event during that time period and haven't really had them since. If that's the case, on a macro level it seems it will make it easier to control by just avoiding super spreader events. But, it doesn't bode well for events like football games and Jazz Fest even if they are outside.
We also had a local college team in the national championship game at the Superdome in January. Since some have reported that the virus was already in the population since December of last year, not only would the game and local festivities around New Orleans have given the virus a chance to set up shop here, but the majority of the game patrons didn't have to leave the state after all the fanfare simmered down.

Later the tourist came to the Big Easy for the Mardi Gras celebrations and mingled among many of these same people. Basically the entire southeast region of Louisiana became a 'perfect storm' of Covid-19 incubation. It's no wonder that per capita the numbers of infections were so high. But it's hard to place blame when so little information about what we would be up against was known at that time. It was just business as usual for the greatest city in the world.

I agree completely with you. With one giant exception. A lot of the gathering is happening at night or evening hours and generally the amount of yelling and screaming is atypical for the summer. Also the size and closeness of the crowds also adds to it as environmental advantages aren’t given an opportunity to help.

However, it being summer, and more people in the sun, with a higher vitamin D count I wonder will help going back to the low vitamin D discussion from earlier. In the southern states that have reopened we are seeing cases go up, for whatever reason. Hospitalizations are not yet. Is it due to lag or does the vitamin D have something to do with that also.

NYC is a fricking mess. But this question is becoming more prevalent with each day of huge crowds in the streets.

Giter told me, “If you can give blessings to protesters who are exercising their right to protest without social distancing, then surely we can be free to practice our right to conduct business in a safe and social distanced manner with masks and sanitizing.”

The protests have exposed the absurdity of the continued lockdowns. It’s either a public-health emergency and crowds must be stopped or it’s not. It cannot be both.
