Lattimore's issue isn't getting beat by the opposing teams' best WR... he gets beat by the no-name JAG WR's because he isn't giving full effort when he's not against someone on his level.

Playcalling is the biggest problem. It's no surprise that Taysom Hill's touchdown run came on a designed option where he could throw or run for it. The defense got caught with their pants down, completely out of position, and Hill gets an easy TD. All this "one fake read and run" crap and read-option garbage needs to stop. Defenses completely sell out on the run and unless Payton decides to actually let Hill air it out from these formations, they're going to be wasted downs.
Alvin Kamara averaged 9.7 yards a carry against the Packers and got 6 carries total. Payton, what are you doing? The bucs killed the Packers by literally ramming the ball right down their throats. Payton's refusal to run potentially cost the Saints wins against the Raiders and bucs.
Brees looks like vintage Brees when the Saints run a hurry-up offense. I believe he is overthinking things and just not trusting himself. When he goes hurry-up, he's not thinking, he's just making reads and throwing, and he even hits some deep shots.
Payton is also as guilty as ever of being overly cute. Brees and the offense gets in gear, then suddenly Taysom Hill on a QB "sneak", and a loss of 3 yards.
The craziest thing, is even with all of these issues, the Saints offense so far in 2020 is outright better than the Saints offense in 2019. Just imagine if Payton can get out of his own way with playcalls
Really great points. The thing about SP is when he's being cute and it works he's a genius and it was one helluva play design. When he's being cute and it doesn't work, well, it stops being cute.
With SP you have to take the good with the bad. He is who he is. It's obvious that he just can't keep it simple or just run the ball. Even if we're gashing a defense in the running game for whatever reason he can't stick to it.
It took a few years, but eventually Payton found that sweet spot in feeling the offense and when a cute play had a high chance of success and would just outright swerve the other team's defense. This season though it feels like he is trying to be cute for the sake of being cute. The plays feel forced, not organic.
Well you have to think about the amount of time he had this offseason alone in his play design dojo. You knew he was going to be in there coming up with some wild stuff. So far he hasn't been too wacky he just hasn't found his rhythm and the players haven't executed in certain situations. But I have faith in our head ball coach. The offense is about to hit their stride. Drew is just getting warmed up.
I can handle Lattimore getting beat by Keenan Allen and even Mike Williams, those are bonafide, legit NFL WR's. But watching Jalen Guyton catch a 49 yd pass (that should've been a 53 yd TD) on a guy that's allegedly a top-5 CB in the league is unacceptable. I understand they were in zone, but he wasn't even running until he realized that he didn't have safety help.My argument would be; he isn't getting beat by most anyone except M.Williams, Aaron Glenn, & Dennis Allen.

Something to the tune of of 300* yada passing, 3 or more TDs, and a 80%+ co pet ion percentage... or thereabouts.
I think "atrocious" is a bit of hyperbole. Defense is down across the league but we are nowhere near the Dallas Cowboys or Bengals defenses. We forced 10 punts last game and a turnover, what more can you possibly ask for??? If our offense was competent in the first half, we cruise right by the Chargers instead of some crazy comeback OT win.
I don't think he's correct about Taysom's plays. They aren't RPO's but zone reads. You can tell that because the lineman are blocking 3+ yards down field which wouldn't be legal if passing was an option, so these aren't run/pass plays they are all designed runs and the defense knows it.

Part of this statement is true...they always finish the regular season pretty good. Then blow it in JanuaryDennis Allen defenses with the Saints have always started out the season bad. And that was with a full preseason.
But they always finish pretty good. It will take longer this year.
Does that mean he should keep his job? Maybe not. But that's the bed we've made to lie in.
