Video Russell Wilson to the Saints hype machine in full force (1 Viewer)

Lol. You have nothing to stand on. Your whole existence is what if. None of our quarterbacks have even sniffed the playoffs this year yet you assume Jamies coming off injury next year will win us championships. Your whole tone continuously wreaks of self righteous because you watch film. You love Wilson you say yet you denigrate his character and leadership constantly. But oh hey wait, I watch film and I’m so good at it that Jamies will win Super Bowls for us.
Forgot about the fact that he has zero wins or appearances. I watch film.
My whole existence? A little dramatic.

There is no self-righteousness because I look at film. I look at game and film because I love the sport and I try to understand more. I go all in when I either follow a player or we are looking at getting a player. I've follow Russ since NC State , thought we had a chance to get him at Auburn when he ultimately decided to go to Wisconsin and follow him at Seattle. You keep saying that I have a self righteous tone but it is only self righteous to you because I'm bringing up what tape shows and stats. All you can bring is insults. I asked you what makes us automatic contenders if we get Russ and you gave me something like playoff experience and leadership, In more or less words, I told you that those things mean nothing if he doesn't have the skill set to play in our scheme and I asked you to give me something tangible.

So I'm going to ask you again, what are the skills that Russell Wilson will bring to the Saints that will make us automatic Super Bowl contenders? Can we get an answer without an insult?

If you look at and evaluate film as you say. what does the film say about Winston, Hill and Book, as compared to Wilson? I am curious to what exactly it is you see in any one of the three currently on the Saints roster, that indicates they are a better option, then Wilson?

I would say that he brings accuracy and he’s not careless with the football. Two things that SP puts huge value on. That’s just my $.02
And I want to place a disclaimer that I am only talking about Russ and not diminishing any other player in the process. But everyone knows how I feel about Russ.

I’d Go with Winston as the starter, but you gotta either tell hill he’s a joker only or trade him(almost impossible w/contract). Have to get rid off this 2sided fan base and 2 different styles of offense.

Wilson would be a luxury but, I wouldn’t be upset if we got him. If we get Wilson, hill QB talk is over.

No hate towards hill, he’s just not the answer next season at qb unless we settle for .500.

Throws a great deep ball. Accurate. Great pocket awareness. Great leader.

What else do you want?? He's an elite QB and has been for several years now. Winston may one day be elite, but we haven't seen that. Winston has elite skills, but has not yet been an elite QB.

Think about it. They are right. Winston is gone for the season and not on that team. But nothing says that he can’t be brought back and can’t be a franchise QB.
That's not what they were talking about. They all think a veteran is going to be brought in from another team. In fact the question was even asked by a texter "what about Winston?" The answer Mike D. and Bobby had was the Saints would be interested in bringing him back...at their price. To compete with the other quarterback they brought in. But they thought Jameis might want to move on somewhere else that might give him more money.

Also, if we resign Winston the “Hill QB talk” is over

Per Sean Fazende on Eric Ashers show yesterday. "I don't think the Saints franchise QB is currently on this roster." You have SOME in the local media members starting to echo it. I think they will absolutely attempt to get someone in the offseason but WILL they be able to land them? That is another question.
Total Nonsense. Jahsoul357 watches film. We’re perfect and won’t be making any changes. He watches a lot of film.

LoL so playoff experience and leadership, those things as you say mean nothing. So it‘s gospel that since you watch film it is an absolute that Sean Payton doesn’t think Russel Wilson has the skill set to play in our system. 102 wins since 2012. Oh those wins were not because of him. Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas and Bobby Wagner are the reason for those 102 wins, Wilson was just merely a passenger. Maybe we should just let Payton go to Chicago and let you be the coach because you watch film. Clearly you know better than us because you watch a lot of film. Do you realize how hard Sean Payton would laugh in your face were you to tell him that Russel Wilson‘s skill set is not capable of running his offense. Your like the Whole Foods guy telling him who is best run his offense because you watch a lot of film. Worry about your Frikin Meat!!!!!

Bobby H and Mike D are speculating like the rest of us.

I would think that our first offseason priority would be resigning Winston at a decent price and duration for him and the team.

Winston coming off the ACL gives not just the Saints but other interested teams a little leverage in negotiations. It really depends on what JW will except, does he want another 1 year prove it deal for around $10 mil and have another shot at a huge pay day if he does great, or does he want a long term deal that gives him more stability?

Either way we will all find out exactly what CSP thinks about our QB options this coming offseason

Excellent post,

I have an idea that might work for everyone (even those that watch film).

Let’s try this hypothetical scenario and see if your answer to who would CSP select as our QB change.

Once again, this is for fun and hypothetical. Let’s say all 3 QBs (Winston, Wilson and Hill) are available/healthy FAs/not under contract and the Saints had ample cap space.

Now, who would CSP sign right now to win?

Not enough on Book in the league to make any real observation
At this point, Hill is who is he but still has his athleticism due to not taking the beating Russ has and being a few years younger
For OUR offense, as it stands right now, I would take Winston over Wilson and that is based on skillset. Winston is far superior to Wilson in the pocket (not close really) and he is better at scanning the field. Russ is deadly accurate on long balls and passing on the run. Jameis has been known to take more risk when there is nothing there, which leads to interceptions. Russ has been known to always try to find something when there is nothing there and holds on to the ball while scrambling to make plays, which leads to sacks. But this season, for me, this is the biggest difference and why I trust Jameis in this offense now more than I trust Russ. Jameis took Drew Brees advice to heart and has cared more about the decision than the result. He takes what's the defense gives him and he is making the right football plays. It is growing pains but something fans forget is it takes time between QB and WRs to build that chemistry. Russ biggest weakness is NOT taking what the defense gives. Because of the big play, there are so many missed opportunities and this is a major factor into why the Seahawks have the lowest ToP and 3rd down conversion rate. If I'm not mistaken, Russ has the lowest 3rd down completion rate in the league but the Seahawks are at the bottom of the league for drops. So this is where sometimes, we confusion decision making with results. But I digress.

Now, I'm not saying that Russ cannot play in this system but for those that think that he will immediately come in and run our offense would need to temper their expectation. If we called Jameis a reclamation project because of interceptions, what would we call Russ based off his weaknesses. People misconstrue pointing out these weaknesses as saying that he isn't great. He is and he has the numbers to back it up. He also played in a system that covered some of these weaknesses (as any system should) and his athleticism made up for others.

I think his deep ball accuracy is one of his biggest strengths but because of it, it leads to one of his biggest weaknesses. He holds the ball way too long and guy who catches hell for it? The O-line. Are they the best unit? No but at the same time that plays a huge part into it. My biggest concern with Russ is with his declining athleticism, he will be forced to be a pocket passer.

Great deep ball - Yes indeed
Accurate - Many would be surprised on short timing throws
Great pocket awareness - Never has been his strength. While he can make throws from the pocket, he will escape it the second he feels pressure (which also leads to a good portion of his sacks).
Great leader - If we are comparing Russ with Jameis, Jameis is the better leader. Not a knock on Russ but it is what it is.

I'm not saying that he isn't elite. I'm just asking the question, does his skill set fit our offense.

Whoever he felt was best for the job.
Here's a hypothetical, who would the team back? We always talk about culture; will Russ fit ours or will we be forced to fit his? Will it change to accommodate Russ?

Does RW have the right “skill set” to run our offense? Seriously?

CSP has worked with and adjusted his offense for multiple players with multiple skill sets throughout his coaching career. K. Collins, T. Romo, Drew, JW, Taysom. So yeah I’m pretty sure that CSP can work with Russ and all his “weaknesses” lol.

Throw all that out the window though and seriously ask yourself this. If Russ and Winston were available to QB all 32 teams and they had enough money, how many of those teams would pick Winston over Russ?

Go ahead, lie to me……

It’s always what “they” thought. How about what Payton and company thinks? We all know that for the right price, they probably bring back Jameis. But we also know that the asking price is very steep for Wilson. The Saints more than likely won’t put themselves behind the curve again when they can use their resources to pay Jameis and shore up the offense and defense for years to come. They aren’t thinking about just short term.

Key here is “if they had the money”, but you have to also think that they have to get a #2 WR, a TE, and a #2 CB. They have to also address the oline. Take Jameis if available and address other positions too.
