Shooter incident at elementary school in Uvalde, Texas - 19 children and 2 adults dead (14 Viewers)

Is there an R Kelly sing playing somewhere during this combination?
It took me a minute (hours LMAO) but I see what you did here.

I may or may not have been listening to the artist in question when it hit me.

Sometimes I'm slow as hell picking up on stuff.

Anyway, thanks 😉

You can pass all the laws you want on background checks. It'll still require people doing their jobs. I wonder if whoever it is responsible for reviewing the background check can be named in a civil suit. I'm betting they're protected from any liability.
Or maybe background checks aren’t a comprehensive solution and we’re going to need to take the guns.

How quickly the tone changes from "no one wants to take your guns" to "we're going to need to take the guns."

It's a lie that no one believes anymore. Good luck with that.

Damn, this just got me.. like, really got to me.. Let’s find our ****ing humanity, ‘cause we failed this kid in a big way .
I saw that this morning and stood in tears in front of the television as they reported it. I have grandkids this age and I could hear their voices in the statement, "Mommy and Daddy are coming to get me soon."

Goshdoggit y'all.

Let's quit the pointing fingers things and the disparaging others thing and any of the other semantic arguments happening in this thread. Let's focus on how we, as a society, have lost our focus when it comes to raising our children and protecting them. I know that this little boy has his grandparents, but Mommy and Daddy will not be coming to get him any time soon.

Five more grandparents and parents in Highland Park, Illinois will not be coming home soon.
Nineteen children in Uvalde, Texas will not be coming home soon.
Two teachers and one husband in Uvalde, Texas will not be coming home soon.
Ten grandparents and parents in Buffalo, New York will not be coming home soon.
Five grandparents and parents in Tulsa, Oklahoma will not be coming home soon.

Of course, I could go on. It is a good thing I can touch type.

Let's put away the things that I mentioned before and turn our focus on how we can do the best possible job of protecting our children and grandchildren. Our parents and grandparents.

To argue anything else is just silly and deflective.

Aiden's Mommy and Daddy will not be coming home.

The people that actually care about their children and raise them to be good people, these aren't their kids arming themselves and committing these acts. This being a "free" society, how do you make people raise their children not to be mental screw ups who want nothing more than to destroy peaceful society?

Educating parents is one small piece of a very complex puzzle. We have to figure out, piece-by-painstaking-piece how come to a solution. Even then, some will fall through the cracks.

There is not a single solution to the problem, though your post here suggests there might be. We have to take real action against a lack of education, divisiveness, and intolerance. We have to remove, as much as possible, the ability to corrupt systems by corruptible people. We have to take every step that we can to reduce the harm that our children face every day including raising our children in such a way that we do not warp their view of reality. Including placing our children in an atmosphere where they have to deal with the trauma of their 10-year-old friends being massacred in front of them (How screwed up mentally will the children of Uvalde be in the years to come?). Even then, some will fall through the cracks.

We must put into place common-sense gun laws, waiting periods, and background checks which may have stopped some of those committing these egregious acts. The founding fathers could not have seen what was coming because the firearm technology at the time was elementary at best. The political atmosphere at that time dictated that there must be well-armed militias. (I'll not jump through the Constitutional arguments and precedence here but I encourage you to read our Constitution and understand why there was an allowance for amendments.) We must close the loopholes. Even then, some will fall through the cracks.

What we need to do is make falling through the cracks harder. It will never be perfect, we can accept that. But we mustn't ever accept that what we are doing now as a society is protecting our children and grandchildren.

Unless it has changed, my old contact at the Illinois State Police said there are 7 people in the department that are approving FOID cards and CCW permits. I would also add that it takes several months to get an approval or denial on a FOID card. I think the local sheriff or police department has to check off on approvals as well but that has never been confirmed by me. The fault should start with the guardian that helped apply for the FOID when he was a minor.

My girlfriend and I have actually had to have a conversation about if we are out somewhere, movies, mall, fair, etc. and we are separated, one of us goes to the bathroom or to get food and a shooting happens what we should do

Basically it's "don't come back for me, don't look for me. Get away, get safe, take cover. I'll do the same. We'll find each other later."

It's something we all (sadly and tragically) should probably talk to our spouse/SO/kids about

Yea. Pretty much. I think we've been shown over the last few years that the kids need to have their toys taken away.

That said, I've advocated for an at-or-above-market gun buyback for years. We don't need to take them by force. But there's simply no way to reduce gun violence in America at this point without reducing access to guns.

Uvalde and Parkland both confirmed that the "good guy with a gun" approach didn't work.

Highland Park will be the one that confirms background checks don't work.

Magazine size reductions will potentially help in total lives lost, though it may not help much in frequencey of shootings.

We've tried it the conservative way. It doesn't work.

Odd timing and more than a little tone deaf

So I travel A LOT.

One thing I've noticed over the years, one of the easiest and fastest ways to find out if you are in MAGA country is by walking into a store and seeing if they sell Black Rifle Expresso or Starbucks Expresso. It's so accurate it's scary.

Yes, we have figured out how to politicize and use coffee to divide. Never underestimate America's ability to hate.
