Education / Teaching thread (2 Viewers)

Dear Governor Landry,

This is all fine and good, but could you please forking PAY US?!? Quit with all the smoke and mirrors and the "oh look, I'm trying help alleviate so much of the bullshirt that the government has put upon you" crap because it rings hollow if you aren't putting your money where your mouth is.
No. No Governor Landry can not give us a Pay Raise... A big part of small limited government is limited government functions, like paying teachers or fixing pot-holes.

It's definitely not a pay raise. It's barely a maintenance of the pitiful stipend they tossed our way. Still irks me that they were initially going to cut the stipend.

Estimates put the chances a child will be subjected to some form of trauma and neglect at 75%. Both directly impact brain function.

A child in those circumstances develops to survive not thrive. We could treat that first and include improving resources for struggling parents.

Or we could go deeper in the whole by cutting those services so 1% of the people can bank 6.5 million by the time they hit 30.

At least every student will know the commandments. Maybe that'll fix things.

Landry benefits in no way from better educated Louisiana voters.

I don't so much think its about making schools private, it's about making schools bible schools instead of places to really be educated. If he has to make them private to do it he will, but the goal is more about a pacified electorate that won't question his, and his supporters, backward views than about taking things private.
Yup. Removing actual science, true history, and critical thinking from school curriculums paves the way for true stupidity. I hate to say it but I really hope to be living in a different country before this mushroom cloud and a crater really hits.

We really are in a downward spiral, education wise. It’s no wonder most people get their facts from social media. We are living in a dumpster fire that is only just getting started.

I don't want to go into too much detail because nothing is set in stone yet, but there's a very good chance that this will be my final year and I'm getting out. It's a big move (not the kind I usually make) and not without risk, and is a pretty big life reset in my early 40's, but this year has just proven to me I can't keep doing it. This career has taken too much from me and I can't be miserable for scraps while catching sheet from all directions anymore.

I know you've been thinking about it - wish you all the best

I gotta tell you, I don’t see how teachers with a conscience do it. I’m sure it takes a lot out of you and the low pay certainly doesn’t help. Hats off to you and those like you for trying to make a difference.
