Underhill: Saints are interviewing probably 12 coaches (Final: officially 6 interviews) (1 Viewer)

Oh yea and since you bring up career winning percentage make sure you bring up career post season winning percentage as well….

Nagy 34-31 regular season and 0-2 in the post season. He was a disaster in Chicago, go read up on his terrible leadership.

Gruden 117-112 and 5-4 in the postseason including a SB champ

Let’s not for one second act like Nagy has ever been better than Gruden, that’s asinine. Again, I’d rather other coaches than either one of these. But to act like Gruden is or was a bum head coach and Nagy was more efficient or just better is one of the worst takes I’ve seen on here in a little while, and that’s saying something.
Let’s not forget Gruden’s breakdown of qb’s on MNF. That was always solid, Gruden is a QB whisperer. Just so happens QB is the most important position in football and obviously NFL football. Get that part right and you will always be in the playoffs.

Pretty sure Sean Payton was a qb whisper er too. Qb coach who knew talent

Oh he’s definitely a better head coach than Nagy and you pretending he’s not is pretty funny.

I mean Nagy has won a bunch of playoff games, oh wait.

I mean Nagy didn’t have to give up his play calling in Chicago bc of how inept the offense was, oh wait.

His best season there they scored more than 15 points in their playoff game, oh wait.

He didn’t have a repetition in Chicago for not taken responsibility when things went wrong, oh wait.

He didn’t have a rep in Chicago of being unable to adapt or evolve in any way, oh wait.

I don’t want either one of them, they both suck. Just Nagy is absolutely terrible while Gruden is outdated

I mean Gruden has a better career winning percentage than Nagy . . . oh wait.

I never said Nagy was a better coach than Gruden. But please don't stop your asinine little rant.

But Gruden hasn't been a good HC since line 2005.

Lol how foolish do you have to be to compare career winning percentages in 67 games compared to 238 games lol

Not to mention one has a .000 winning percentage in the postseason.

Just stop. You’re way behind on this one

And let’s not act like I’m advocating for Gruden. I don’t want him as our next coach, but if we are comparing careers between Gruden and Nagy, well, anyone with knowledge would tell you there’s no comparison. At least not yet….

But in reality, we can just disagree. It’s all good man. I don’t want to argue with a fellow Who Dat. Especially over two guys that aren’t relevant in the NFL. One is retired and the other has been one of the main reasons KC hasn’t been as effective on offense and was a 💩 head coach. They don’t matter enough for us to get frustrated with one another. Have a good night.

We were told there was going to be an actual hiring process when everyone knew they were handing Dennis Allen the job.

I’ll be skeptical it’s an actual process until proven otherwise.
From the moment Payton retired, it alway looked liked they were gonna promote from within/DA getting it.
This seems more like a search.

That is how I remember it as well. Whilst this is all my speculation/inference of course, the FO and Gayle Benson didn't actually believe Payton would walk away. Winston had shown some promise under Sean pre-injury and that season was the start us becoming infested with the injury bug year after year but of course no one at the time could've known that to be the case. Then rumblings started in the media. Kamara took to twitter and completely blew it off which means he either had no idea and/or had some inkling but didn't believe it was serious either. Then Payton actually retired, and in IIRC in either the press conference or an interview done right after Gayle even mentioned that she asked he if he just wanted a year sabbatical to refresh himself. They were completely caught off-guard. Of course after the Miami situation was confirmed I would say they shouldn't of been but they had their reasons I'm sure. Not too long after if not the same day, Payton endorsed Dennis Allen as the next HC. At that point, it's safe to say the writing was on the wall unless someone else really blew them away.

This year we have absolutely none of that going on. Allen isn't endorsing anyone and even he knows with the fanbase and possibly a portion of the playing staff it would be the "kiss of death" for that person anyway. There are no co-ordinators on our staff that are remotely considered shoe-ins for a HC role anywhere, and Rizzi's had an audition that started off fun but has been lackluster since then.

I think this time they're definitely going to do an extensive search. I don't personally want either Jon Gruden or Matt Nagy to be part of that search but that's out of our control.

In my opinion, the Gruden stuff is coming from his agent or his side.
He’s also getting mentioned for the Jets job.

I think it will eventually come out that Gruden told Payton to go all in on Nix. I say that because I have listened to his evaluations of qbs. His knowledge of the game from a qbs perspective is uncanny. I encourage anyone that doubts that to watch youtube videos of his knowledge.I’ll start with his evaluation of Brees

I was in the Joe Brady/Ben Johnson camp for a bit until last week when driving during the holidays. Listening to Press Coverage on NFL Radio, they were discussing how to fix the Jets as it's the worst job out there. They said it would take someone like Vrabel, an Alpha Dog HC who can build a team/culture. It's not going to be ine of these younger OC guys who have their heads buried in a play sheet.

That conversation carried over to how Pete Carroll might come back for the Chicago job, another Alpha Dog HC who can build a team/culture.

Then it went to how this season we'll see the guys like Carroll, Vrabel and Gruden get jobs b/c they owners/GMs are kinda tired of missing on these supposed up and comer coordinator gurus as they aren't team/culture building Alpha Dog HCs.

It makes a ton of sense and we need that, so I've switched from looking at Brady/Johnson or any hot shot OC to an actual team/culture building HC like Vrabel. Vrabel would be my first choice due to the team I know he could build. Gruden would be my second choice. He's going to get back into the league and those who think the league passed him by will be wrong as he's stayed close to the game with time to see it from the outside to evolve as a HC/OC play caller.

Those same people who are saying the game passed him by were the ones saying SP's offense was old and the league had caught up to it. SP is doing just fine in Denver.

I would be curious what Gruden thinks about QBs like JJ McCarthy, Daniel Jones, Zach Wilson and others who could be available or are reclamation projects. We know he'd roll with Carr to start and he does have a history with Haener, but I see Haener as a career backup, not a QB1. I'd be curious what his assessment is of Rattler as well.

As if Payton said, “Duh…OK.”

Loomis interviewed a bunch of coaches before he hired DA, but the decision was already made as soon as Payton left.
