USMNT - ‘23 and beyond

It’s just a sublime ball from CP

the weight of the pass, the location and then Leao, instead of running and getting on top of the ball, just reaches out with right, which makes the keeper pause because the his body angle says "no way he cutting this across"

man that was a fun second half yesterday.

It’s cool seeing how important that was to the ACM fans. Some were crying. I’m definitely going to be watching them for the rest of the season. It would be awesome if they go deep in the champions league

AC Milan were just gritty. Just stuck to the plan and while defensively, they leave something on the table, they seemingly can overcome that weakness with the ability to score goals. Timely goals at that.

Once that belief morphs into confidence, magic like this happens.

Fond memories of my Red Devils in the mid 2000s where they would snatch a W in the closing minutes- almost as if that was the plan. A "rope-a-dope". Alas, those days are LOOOONG gone currently lol.

Been collecting / investing in Pulisic cards for a bit now. I don’t have any massive cards but been picking up numbered and non-numbered autos of him in USMNT kits, especially if there’s a kit and card color match. Glad to see he’s found his spot in Serie A with Milan.

US Soccer is definitely improving. I got to be on the eval team this weekend for the Roanoke (VA United FC) ECNL tryouts. We had 54 invitees for the 07/08 Boys trying to make 18 spots and everyone of them was talented.

Geez.

We have so few competitive matches to build towards the World Cup and can’t even win this against Panama.

So I was watching replay...got to 70th min and got a text from friend with score

Saved me 25 min

We looked slow in first half, missed some good opportunities, but on a small field like today, we simply don't have the scheme to unlock. The field offered no width allowing Panama to stay compact. Add to that they pressed every single pass once inside their half, so we played a large part of game cycling ball side to side.

Oh well.

Maybe could have used a couple of creative players like Reyna and Luna off the bench?

I figured Weah would play RB and push Scally to LB allowing someone line Reyna to start.

But I did see Poch had some comments about Reyna and his attitude or approach earlier this week

"The difference was the way they fight for the game," Pochettino said. "They were hungry for every single ball. Every ball was the last one for Panama and, from the touchline, you feel that difference."

Pochettino was particularly upset with his team's first-half display, even though it nearly scored on several occasions.

"The way we approached the game and started the game wasn’t in the right way," Pochettino said. "The first half, we played too slow, [we were too] comfortable on the pitch. We didn’t show aggression with the ball."

He added: "The first half was really painful to see."

recurring theme with this squad- not sure what the answer is at this point.

Very risk adverse and mostly content to possess the ball.

With Panama playing 5 at the back, there should have been spaces in behind the wingbacks to counter/attack quickly, and I think we saw some of that with all the room Musah had over there early. But he’s not really who you’d want attacking in that situation. Weah at RB would have been better IMO.

And seems like while Panama was trying to clog the middle, we were as well, wirh Pulisic drifting inside often. And then we’re still lobbing balls into the box hoping something connects.

We really needed someone like Reyna (or even Pulisic) to just be willing to take them on and beat one or two defenders one on one to open things.
Felt very much like a Berhalter game.
