Someone told me Loomis is forcing the new head coach to keep a certain number of current assistant coaches on the team as a condition of getting the job .


Please tell me this is not the case .

I’m already very anti Loomis to begin with and if this is true it would be the final straw

I’ve not seen that rumor officially confirmed. I would assume though that the organization probably would like to retain certain coaches barring those coaches receiving other job opportunities. Like Kubiack and Rizzi. I think Kubiack would work as our offensive OC and Rizzi as ST coordinator and they’d probably be on the short list of any coach we hire anyway

I'd wait for the final results before creating yet another reason to hate Loomis based on rumor, limited info, and hypotheticals.

It could very well simply be that he wants the new HC to keep the ST coach and OL coach only. It could be that he wants a HC that wants to run the Shanahan offense and in-turn gauge their interest in retaining Kubiak, solely for continuity purposes. It could be that the rumor is completely made-up and Loomis never once said it.

We just don't know. Let's see it play out, then judge the staff once it is finalized.

It's an unconfirmed rumor. I wouldn't put any stock in this one. Normally new head coach hires are given carte blanche when it comes to coaching staff selections.

If I'm GM, I'm entrusting the new coach with the personnel decisions and let him do his thing. They're adults and know what's involved with building a team.

I see Vrabel listed as confirmed but I don't see any reports that he's agreed to interview.

Good question, but I’d assume that unless a report comes out that says an interviewee declined a request, it means they intend to take the interview.

As I have been preaching all along, these jobs are all rare, very high paying, and highly coveted. These guys are not missing interviews unless there is some personal factor involved where they strongly don’t want to be involved with a certain organization, and that would be news anytime it happens.

Another thing to keep in mind is that even though these are presented as “Interview requests,” most of them are not on the up and up. Talks between teams and agents many times occur prior to the formal requests. In other words, a guy like a Vrabel doesn’t exactly learn that the Saints want to interview him via hearing from his team that they requested to interview him.

It may be why we haven’t heard of the Saints being linked to Ben Johnson at all. The informal talk has probably already occurred and we on his oddly picky list.

I’m okay with retreads that have demonstrated that they CAN win and may have just had some unfortunate luck.

A guy like DA though, that never demonstrated that he can win, those are the types I want no part of.

A guy like McCarthy, with multiple double digit win seasons, a Super Bowl win even if long ago…he’s demonstrated he has the gift of being able to put together a good program.

I am wondering if Vrabel left us 'on read' as he has already interviewed with the Jets, Pats, and Bears, and he is available to interview at any time because he's not coaching right now. All the reports I've seen say the Saints are seeking to interview him and then... nothing.

Or has already secured an offer (NE) and now has the leverage of knowing he is merely shopping to see if he has a perfect situation and offer he can’t refuse out there. I.E. he can now afford to be picky.

KK already has a couple of interviews scheduled. The Saints could block that if they wanted. If they aren't blocking the big guys, I don't see them blocking the little guys either.

Mike Kafka has been regarded as a brilliant football mind since his playing days at Northwestern. He’s the exact kind of guy who gets a couple cups of coffee in the NFL then joins some coaching staffs and flies up the ranks. He helped to get early-career Patrick Mahomes “best ever” consideration as a 24-year-old.

Unfortunately, this fan base has been extremely loud and angry about the fact that he even got an interview, because “tHe gIaNtS wERe TerRIbLe” not realizing both points above, and also that if LSU product Malik Nabers hadn’t gone to NYG, none of those people could name a single offensive skill position player on that talent-poor roster. Sometimes the team itself is frustrating, but right now it’s the fans being terrible.

I appreciate the additional info on Kafka. About all I knew of him is that he's been with the Giants, and neither the Giants O nor Daniel Jones have been impressive. I was also wondering "WTH?!" Is it safe to say he's "on the map" due to his work with Mahomes; but hasn't duplicated that without Mahomes? I don't want to turn my nose up to ANY candidate, but I'm honestly trying to understand what this guy brings to the table besides "worked with Pat Mahomes in his early years of being an NFL QB." What else am I missing?
