After last nights dismantling of the Vikings by the Rams defense does Chris Shula start getting some looks? He certainly has a pedigree and he has as much coaching experience as a lot of younger candidates do. Not saying he's the guy, but he certainly hasn't done a bad job with a lot of young talent on that defense.

It sort of seems like the Shula greatness at head coach stopped with Don. None of Don’s son amounted to much as HCs. Maybe it just skips a generation though?

I find it ironic that semantics matter when it comes to content of your posts, but you disregard those semantics when it comes to the posts of others. Since you opened that door, I think it was pretty clear I was piggy-backing onto the other poster's observation about Reid's career in Philly. A commentary about the Philly fanbase, where I live. Nothing I said negates nor refutes any of your comments regarding Reid's KC tenure. In fact, even if you perceived that in some way, I believe that someone who was truly engaged in a meaningful discourse might have pointed out that Reid's tenure in Philly with Donovan McNabb, Mike Vick, Kevin Kolb, and any QBs before McNabb (don't remember, too lazy to look it up) would actually support your "treading water" argument, as you presented it. But you missed that opportunity because you were focused on what you think I said, so you could argue your point further? You're quick to say "maybe people should read WHAT i say not what people say what they think I said."

Take your own condescending advice. You seem to seek conflict and arguments with anyone who doesn't share your opinion. And interject yourself into faux conflicts that you invited yourself to; then play the misunderstood victim, while you clarify your semantics. You're getting what you give. You're not even interesting anymore...seek your drama someplace else. I have no interest in feeding your need...

FWIW, Underhill is saying that he thinks that it's Glenn/McCarthy as the Saints top choice for HC. Could be either and they will continue to pursue Glenn. So we may not know anything soon since Glenn is in the playoffs.

IMO, that makes it possible that McCarty takes the Chicago job before we are in a position to really offer the job to him.

If you interview McCarthy and he's still got the "juice" needed to endure a soft rebuild, you don't let him out of the building. Glenn might actually pick the Jets over the Saints when all is said and done if both options are on the table.

Chicago is in the Ben Johnson sweepstakes. I don't think they make a decision anytime soon until after they have the in person interview with Johnson which could be weeks from now. We're in the same boat with Glenn.

Maybe, but Chicago may decide that they want an experienced coach that knows the division and has developed QBs in the NFL to develop Williams. And they even requested to interview McCarthy before his Cowboys' contract expired so maybe he is their top choice?

I don't know. Based on what I'm seeing from their process, it's looks to be a long and drawn out process. They have as much as 17 Interviews in the first round alone and are not anywhere near done with these interviews yet.

I hear you. I think McCarthy is the right pick for where this team is and anyone else is going to be a big risk with the potential for spectacular failure.

That being said, I really like Aaron Glenn as a former good player and culture setter. And I might pick him over McCarthy if he was an offensive coordinator instead of a defensive coordinator, but he isn't. And, there is still a part of me that wants to go YOLO and see what Brady might be able to do.

But, the by far safest pick with the highest floor, and still a high ceiling, is McCarthy.

I floated that idea sometime around mid-season, when the popular discussion was "who could we get IF we fired DA". There was the usual plethora of "obvious" candidates. Not that I have a problem with that, but I try to avoid groupthink and attempt to think outside the box.

Trading for CSP was one of the most realistic "outside the box" proposals I could conjure up, acknowledging it wasn't LIKELY to happen. Slightly more likely, I suggested a trade for Dan Campbell, allowing the Lions to retain Ben Johnson as HC. Neither idea got much traction, nor discussion. But if we're leaving no stone unturned....it was worthy of consideration.

At this point, I think we're too far along in the HC search now to reconsider, but I hope phone calls were made very early in the process. And maybe they were... But I think that train(s) has left the station now.
