I've been thinking about musk's salute for a while. I've come to the conclusion that i think it was intentional (i don't know how anyone could mistakenly do a nazi salute, it's ingrained in our society, and i just don't see how you could get carried away and do one) and planned. The only thing that makes sense to me is he planned to do it in such a way that he had plausible deniability and to troll people.

I've watched the whole clip. It doesn't get better when i see two nazi salutes.

Yeah, if it was once, I would have just said eh, did he actually do that?...but he did it twice in exactly the same manner, so there was no mistaking what he was doing. Anyone thinking it wasn't intentional is being willfully dishonest.

Yeah, I think he was trolling as well - sort of the 4Chan clowning that he thinks is so clever and funny because of the reaction it gets but that's certainly a very juvenile, unserious conduct from someone who we're supposed to believe is so important.

At the same time, he does indeed have a history that, if anything, would shade in favor of the kind of viewpoint that supports Nazism or some elements of it. He very recently supported the AfD, which has its own history of trivializing the criticism of Nazism if not outright supporting it.

Is it one or the other? Or a little of both? The silliest, most absurd thing is the people (who at least take themselves seriously) going out there on the news trying to tell us to our faces that it wasn't what it very clearly was.

Yeah, I think he was trolling as well - sort of the 4Chan clowning that he thinks is so clever and funny because of the reaction it gets but that's certainly a very juvenile, unserious conduct from someone who we're supposed to believe is so important.

At the same time, he does indeed have a history that, if anything, would shade in favor of the kind of viewpoint that supports Nazism or some elements of it. He very recently supported the AfD, which has its own history of trivializing the criticism of Nazism if not outright supporting it.

I guess that's true but some of them, Musk included, are legit trolls who think it's funny in their twisted, nihilistic way. He's also a ketamine addict so who knows what he's actually thinking.

Well he is mad at the Stargate announcement just day later - and if i had to guess, its because he wasnt one of the few included in the $500B investment. Whereas i think he just assumed he would be.

Create an uproar so that when the announcement comes, and he is one of a very few to benefit, its glossed over.

Welp, he wasnt one of the "chosen". Now big mad.

I totally agree he knew what he was doing. That was not "from the heart" or "spur of the moment". The question to me would be - WHY? Does the richest man in the world get his rocks off pulling this type of stunt? He absolutely knew it would cause an uproar from some. Just a troll job, tho......I dunno. I kinda agree it's to distract everyone from something else.

It's a sad state of affairs... they very well know that those images were taken from videos of people waving, and the particular frame was captured to come up with a false equivalency meme, yet they go with it, as if that would fool anyone who is outside that ideology.

You watched the actual video clips of those other still photos? And compared them to the actual video clip of Musk? And you still think "people see what they want to see"? I remember reading someone once describing 4 Chan thusly: the first generation of anons were trolling and trying to out edge lord each other. Subsequent generations on the site saw all that and really started to believe it, many of them essentially self indoctrinating into extremist views via sheetposting.

Musk is the IRL version of that. Even if he's trolling, what is he opening the door to? How much is he moving the Overton window for a segment of the population. Nothing he does can be assumed to exist in a vacuum.
