I'm sure what Carr wanted was the ability to sign a 3 or 4 years $40 million contract like Geno Smith is about to get. If he plays out his contract here, he's only guaranteed money this year because the Saints are going to cut him next year. If he wants long term stability for 3 or 4 years at good money, it is a benefit for him to be a free agent now or be traded with the guarantee of a new contract. Or it was before free agency started.

Makes sense, and if it’s true, then Carr would’ve rescended his no trade clause, and the public may have found out? Maybe that info is found out, but after a trade would happen.

Agreed. Add in the fact that Underhill and Tripplet don't do clickbait or sensationalism, and they have good team sources, I find it hard to believe there isn't a fire under that smoke.

If that were mostly true, then they wouldn't have gotten the coaching search wrong. For the past month, they have gotten a lot more things wrong than right.

They also haven't actually been reporting much latetly. They have been speculating and opining a lot more than they have been reporting and they both blur the lines between reporting and opining a lot lately, even if they aren't doing it intentionally.

Kirwan is competing for viewers just like everyone else. If he doesn't repeat what everyone else is saying, then he looks like he's out of the loop and starts losing viewers. If he doesn't engage in negative and sensationalized "give the people what they want to hear" stories, then he starts losing viewers.

The hyper-monetization of reporting in combination with both an oversaturation of "reporters" and an insatiable demand for up to the nanosecond news on a 24 hour basis has killed actual reporting.

While I do think there’s fire around this smoke I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiment. I also believe wholeheartedly that it isn’t just sports journalism that’s impacted by this.

He's NFL QB in a relatively small tv market who mas made millions over his career. This is not NYC or Philly. Unlike his brother who took an actual physical beating, this is nothing. For all the so-called "hate" that people mention on this board toward him, he is set for life with generational wealth, and I'm sure he and his family are not in any real danger. He'll probably make another 20-30 mil before he retires just a bridge QB/backup. It's not my fault he doesn't know the joy of a shrimp or roast beef po-boy from Parkway Deli.

Carr is 34 years old and probably missing any chance of real post season glory at this point staying with us.

So, if Carr was itching that badly to be a FA. Either he's a coward that bit his tongue or it's not true. I'm more willing to believe that it's not true.

He has no incentive at this point of his career to be loyal to a situation that he didn't want to be in to finish his career.

No clue on the truth of the matter, same as the rest of us passing time on a sports message board about our team lol….but the missing out on a chance at postseason glory part made me laugh heartily Taker. I agree with that but I’d also suggest (factually) that Carr has been doing a fine job of that his whole career.

Agreed about some fans going way too far but I don’t feel a bit bad for him lol.

It’s a business to them, period. He’s made more money than most here will ever see, infinitely more….paid very well to play a game. I’m not a Carr basher at all, some surely are….still don’t feel a bit bad for him. He cares zero about what myself or anyone of us says at the end of the day as he lives his multimillionaire life and cashes those checks most never see.

Underhill and Triplet both built up sources while they were both working for other outlets. I think those sources carried over when they when they branched out on their own. An entirely new coaching staff this year and slow changes to the roster have probably eliminated most of their direct connections.

As negative as they've been about the Saints for the past couple of months, I doubt the new regime is going to share anything with either of them that they could negatively spin. I have a feeling that they are both going to be on the outside looking in a lot more from now on.

Also, players don't have complete information on most of team business, so a single player isn't the best source of information. I don't get the impression that any sports reporter looks for multiple corroborating sources before they post things on the internet.

It’s has positives though. To the second news updates more than just sports too. The biggest issue is people’s ego’s get inflated when they aren’t speaking directly in front of the person they’re communicating with.
