Saints Cap Moves: $30,305,932 cap space ….. 8 restructures, 3 extensions, 3 pay cut, 1 release [All current cap moves are in OP below line]

I didn't want to say it because I already made too many enemies for saying that Carr doesn't appear to want to be here, but the thought that they could use the space to trade Carr this year did cross my mind.

You just stepped on the Carr landmine and the next 40 pages are about to be the same people saying the same things they've been saying for weeks 😭

With what money though? If we release Carr then that's basically it. May Flacco on a close to vet minimum deal.

Maybe that's why we are clearing all the cap space to absorb the hit and be able to sign a vet QB? It doesn't seem likely but it seem possible. Plus, I wouldn't count out Loomis going YOLO and trading a load of picks, and maybe Carr, to the Titans for the #1 pick to draft Ward.

The question you’d have to ask yourself is why go through the whole charade of declaring Carr the starting QB in 2025 in the first place?

I’d be lying if I was to say the thought didn’t cross my mind with the cap space, but I just can’t get past both the HC and GM going all-in with their words on Carr. It would be odd.

I agree with this. The only exception is if Carr has become discontent and does not want to be here and the team is having to adjust to that, somehow not foreseeing it after conversations with Carr.

I don't think it's likely, but maybe Carr starting was the plan but Carr got pissed because they asked him to take a pay cut and wants to be traded. That would explain why they initially came out declaring they wanted Carr to start and restructured his deal. They may have thought Carr would get over it but maybe he, or more likely his agent, is making noise that makes them think it won't be a good situation to keep Carr against his wishes?

I'm obviously speculating and none of this seems likely, but that's one explanation for how things have gone down.

What if we trade 93 for Joe Milton, trade back in the first round and get another day 2 pick. Then with our first pick in the first round we pick Jaxson Dart. We then let Rattler, Milton, and Dart battle it out to be our starting QB. Oh and Derek Carr becomes the highest paid water boy in team history
I've always said I'd be completely OK w/ Carr being an expensive Tutor for Rattler or any other QB for a solid year, depending on how we approached the QB1 spot.

The absolute best case scenario is the model the Chiefs used. We start Carr, we make the playoffs. Our developmental QB (Rattler or a Draft pick) gets to sit and learn. maybe play in a late season game because we've already clinched. We then trade Carr or June 1st cut and hand the playoff team over to the new QB w/ less pressure on him.

I will continue to say that everything happens the way it's supposed to happen. If they Saints find themselves in a tight spot w/ Carr and are forced to trade up to draft a QB and then move him it'll be becasue it's in our best interest.

Last year we couldn't get out of our own way and just when it looked like we could manage some wins, Carr gets himself injured and we remain within the top 10 draft picks, arguably so we could be in this position right now. If he forces his way out of town...good.

I honestly have no idea who the week 1 starter at QB is going to be. I think there's at least 30-40% chance it is Rattler. Exciting times to be a Saints fan. Enjoy the ride.

My money is on the guy that both the head coach and GM praised and declared was going to be the starter in 2025, but that’s just me. 😂

what makes me think there something going on, besides the silence itself. Is that they cleared a ton of space then whiffed. Ok that space was for the three they whiffed on. OK But why continue to clear cap room? This tells me the space wasnt necessarily for the free agents. Then it must be for Carr and to get rid of him after june 1st? (Carr knows this, and this is why he didnt show up for anything and is silent now). Does this make sense cap wise? Maybe we're drafting Dart at 9 or moving up? Hmm, As im writing this im remembering AKs tweet.

And there it is. With 10 voiding contracts, we have 36 players for 2026 and already $4 million over the cap.

We can expect McCoy, Chase Young, Granderson, Ruiz, Johnson, and Kamara to be the quick restructures in Mar 2026. They’ll clear $49 million cap space. Kamara will probably be a reworked deal/paycut with the same amount of cap savings ($8M).

2027 will be the Year of The Big Absorb for all of the current-2026 dead money to absorb into the $80-100+ million cap space that’ll be available then.
