Saints sign WR Brandin Cooks to a 2-year, $13 million deal

This is a good quality depth signing for insurance in case of injury. Olave' is not going to be traded. Yeah Cooks slowed down a little, but he is still getting open. From the recent videos y'all have put out, it plainly shows this. He catches balls for 1st downs and TD's. So if he's getting open and making the catches, what is the point of your arguments against signing him.

It's interesting to note that Cooper and Keenan Allen are both available and fit the mold more of posession recievers with seperation. While Cooks may have slowed down some, he's still fast and relies on that speed to get open.

It seems that's Kellen Moore's preference for some reason. There is a current trend in the NFL of getting speedy receivers and stretching the defense over quick 5 yard pass plays that brings the defenses up more to the LOS. Maybe this is another layer of strategy Moore is adding to help put the running game in position to succeed.

We've also seen the CBs getting bigger to deal with the bigger WRs, these same CBs normally have difficulties with smaller WRs. He could be creating mismatches. I haven't looked at the CB starters in the NFC South, but I am curious if that has factored in.

CB's in Staley's defense have to be big. He bunches the Dline and LB's up over the ball snap to force things outside, whether its a run play or short pass. Staley really, really tries to force those plays to the outside since outside plays are harder to execute then between the numbers. So your CB's have to be big because they're going to have RB's, TE's and screens to contend with consistently. Your LB's also have to be fast, and able to range sideline to sideline which likely scraps players like Jay Higgins being drafted (his 40 was a huge disappointment. I was expecting more like a 4.65'-4.7).

Yeah, I'm not worried about our CBs, but the CBs in the NFC South who CKM's offense will go against.

My guess is there are at least one or two who are bigger since ATL has London/Pitts and TB has Mike Evans, all of those guys are big.

I believe his preference for Cooks is because Cooks has a couple of years in Moore's offensive system. He could help mentor the other young WR's and help get our veteran WR's up to par.

I don't think that's right. Cooks went to Dallas in '23. That's the year Moore went to the Chargers.

I wonder if Cooks will be a spokesperson again for Rouses.

Just use your own eyes.

I’ll say this…

When watching Brandin Cooks, I personally see one of the fastest players in the league. He always appears to be the fastest guy on the field when running routes, and if he gets behind the defense he’s never getting caught from behind. You often see him catching a lot of passes wide open with DBs nowhere near him because of that speed.

HOWEVER, what I will concede is that he does lack is the level of elusiveness that typically accompanies a player with his size paired with his speed level.

What I mean is he lacks cat-like reflexes and suddenness unless it is scripted, scheduled quickness and suddenness (I.E. designed routes). He’s not making guys miss when bottled up in traffic hardly ever, seems to ramp down his speed level a bit when in said traffic and makes a lot of business decisions, which isn’t surprising giving his size and injury history.

Guys with his size, speed, and pedigree usually bring a lot more to the table to showcase that speed, like a Desean Jackson. Heck, it has always been odd to me that a guy with Cooks’ size and speed isn’t returning kicks and punts. We tried it early in his career, but it’s just not a part of his skill set due to reasons noted above. He was downright terrible at it.

So I think I understand what you’re saying; I just wouldn’t quite describe it the way you did. He uses his elite speed to get open, but doesn’t necessarily use it with the ball in his hands unless the coast is clear.

I don't recall which game it was. Cooks was breaking open. I point at him and yell, Cooks, Cooks, Cooks! Like Drew could hear me from up in 612. Drew hit him for a TD. To this day one, when we score a long TD, one of my friends still says Cooks, Cooks, Cooks.
My friend that says that just texted me. She said" Cooks, Cooks, Cooks is back in black and gold.". Lol.
