Carr wanted to be traded prior to restructure per NOF and CBSsports

Agreed. We would have still had a hefty dead cap charge but if he really wanted to go he had opportunities to lower the cost to make it happen. Now suck it up and play ball. But the fans don’t need to boo him at games like they love to do. That makes us look bad. Support him for 17 games then we move on.

They'll boo him. The hate towards him is unhealthy and a bad look for the fanbase.

If he doesn’t want to be here, pay him and sit him if we’re stuck with him. The money is spent either way. I’d rather watch somebody like Rattler or a rookie buy all-in and bust tail trying to become their best, if the alternative is possibly something less than that.

We all heard the possibility that Carr wanted out...here are more details from CBS. They quote Nick Underhill who says "the Saints are in the quarterback business."

The New Orleans Saints restructured Derek Carr's contract this offseason, all but ensuring the quarterback will remain with the team through the 2025 season. That doesn't mean all is well between the two sides. Carr sought a trade before reworking his deal, according to NewOrleans.Football, and his relationship with the Saints remains "tenuous at best" as the club scouts potential quarterbacks of the future.

This comes weeks after previous reports indicated Carr had interest in exploring his value on the open market, though the Saints apparently had no desire to release or trade the veteran. In turn, Carr publicly admitted he would be unwilling to take a pay cut, and the two sides ultimately agreed to redo his four-year, $150 million deal, pushing tens of millions into future seasons.

This will not end well.

Let's say the company you work for was bought out by another company and you know layoffs are likely coming. Do you (A) keep doing what you're doing and wait for the Turk to come knocking on your door before you start looking for another job, or do you (B) start looking before the Turk comes.

If Moore wasn't comfortable with Carr and his relationship with the team, it's not likely that Moore would be willing to hitch his wagon to a QB that doesn't want to be here. The Saints are not doing a full rebuild like some wanted. They're trying to build a roster to win now. That's likely all Carr cares about.

This means that those who wrote the article didn't bother themselves with talking directly to Underhill to get any insight he may have. They just quoting what he said to create a story they want to create to get attention and make money.

They are just repeating. They are not reporting.

Did they say they were told this by someone with the Saints or someone with Carr?

Let's get the sequence of events in proper chronological order. Carr's public comment about not taking a pay cut came right after the season ended which makes it highly likely that Carr made the comment before any contract discussions took place.

This is just a reshuffle and repeat of the same story that's over a month old now and it's still as unsubstantiated now as it was then. If this "smoke" had "fire" then someone would have found the "fire" by now. The fact that every story on this is just a rehashing of the same exact speculations makes it obvious to me that there is no actual "smoke" or "fire" to be found.

It's easier to tell people what they want to hear than it is to make the effort to try to get answers from the Saints and Carr.

I agree with you, but Carr is too much of a competitor to not play and play hard. Just might not see him put himself in a position where he might get injured like he's done before.

Lots of assuming going on about what’s in Carr’s heart, but his last play as a Saint he went all out for that first down and he paid the price. We have plenty to gripe about but I don’t think Carr’s heart is a top ten item.
As critical of him as I've been, I think his heart might be a Top 2 attribute for him as a Saint.

There’s no way a team can be successful with a quarterback who doesn’t want to play for your team. But somehow I don’t think he won’t play as hard as he can anyway. If not, we’re screwed. :covri:
