We should all be losing sleep with the near reality we almost had if Watson had decided to sign here. Imagine our current salary cap situation PLUS Watson’s contract. We were so close to a disaster that would’ve crippled the Saints for over a decade. This alone should have had Loomis fired.

A few thoughts…

- Our cap situation wouldn’t be entirely different because the biggest impact on it, Derek Carr, wouldn’t be present, so our current “problem” would probably be just the same.

- We have no idea what type of contract we were offering Watson. It certainly was nothing like Cleveland’s offer or else their last minute swoop-in would not have worked.

- Who knows how Watson would have translated to our environment? We have seen several QBs look like they not belong in the league in one place while thriving in another in recent years.

- Who knows what players we would have signed or not signed had we had Watson?

I’m glad we dodged the bullet nonetheless, but to frame it the way you have seems a bit, disingenuous.

Disingenuous? I was just reminding everyone how razor close the Saints were to being even more of a salary cap disaster. No, Watson’s contract with the Saints wouldn’t have been the same as the Browns but still would’ve far more than Carr’s and with way more guaranteed money. Things would’ve certainly been different but I seriously doubt better. The Browns saved the Saints from themselves and we should never forget it or sweep it under the rug.
