2025 Saints Draft Prospects’ Visits & Workouts (4 QB, 4 RB, 4 OL, 3 Edge, 2 CB, 2 WR, 1 DL, 1 TE , 1 LB, 1 S) (1 Viewer)

Every year sports journalist want to make something out of who the Saints are meeting with and so forth. As has been posted here before, the Saints are not going to forecast their favorites publicly. Like most teams they want to distract and smokescreen their draft strategy to the utmost.

I don’t know if it’s a smokescreen, but there has been far from a correlation between whom the Saints interview and whom they draft. Teams are allowed 45 combine interviews IIRC, so they might as well talk to as many players as they can.

If you’re drafting 9th, to take a random example 😬 you never know who will drop unexpectedly, so you might as well talk to players that probably won’t fall to 9th. The Saints occasionally trade up 😡, so it’s worth meeting with the highest rated draftees as well.

I just will never be mad at the team for trading up. It's exciting and means they are going for a player they believe in. Just have to hope it's not a overpay or a player that will be a bust.

Underhill has mentioned that the Saints usually talk to like 300 guys every year in some form of interview or another. Could be at the Senior Bowl, Combine, top 30 visits, or personal visits at pro-days. So, they likely talk to the vast majority of the guys they draft, but they talk to so many that who they interview with really isn't any indication of who they will draft. Most of it is to check on them for the draft this year, but they also keep files on all these guys in case they become free agents or are available for trade in the future.

Trading up this year would not in my opinion address several areas of concern for the Saints. Trading back would be the better option.
1) Replacing older players with youngers players possibly reducing injuries and increasing productivity;
2) Reducing the cap hit over time;
3) Reducing the investment in this year's cap on high round playesrs;
4) Having more draft picks in the front end of the draft to fill areas of need.
