3 lucky as hell kids...

My god.... Are people in that much of a rush that they are willing to not only kill three children, but possibly themselves in the process?

This happens around here at LSU, quite often. A bus stops to let students off and a car comes flying around the bus and nearly hits people. A few weeks ago, it almost happened to me. I looked both ways after getting off the bus and this guy came flying around the bus and came to close to hitting me that I had I taken another step, he would have ran me over. Riding behind a bus may be frustrating, but I would never risk the lives of some passengers to arrive at my destination 2 minutes sooner.

I think it's more likely that these people are just not paying attention. It's not as if this driver made a conscious decision to risk these kids' lives because he/she wanted to shorten the day's drive time.

Such a close call can be a result of something so simple as just a short lapse in judgment. A split second decision can make a driver look really stupid and it can put pedestrians in danger too. Driving is basically the most dangerous thing all of us do on a day to day basis -- a very brief lapse in attention can yield tragic results. Any traffic accident could be chalked up to bad timing.

Oh well, traffic will be completely automated soon enough and we won't have to worry about this anymore. Your car will drive you and it won't make such stupid moves.

You may be right. It's hard to keep your eyes on the road when they are busy looking down at their phone.

Does the cause matter? Either way (in a hurry or distracted), he/she is a piece of junk who almost killed 3 kids. Brief or not it was a HUGE inexcusable lapse in judgement.

Why isn't the bus in the right lane?

The article indicates that it was in the right lane and that the vehicle went around several cars waiting behind the bus and into the shoulder where it sped up and almost hit the kids.

Not to sidetrack this thread, but I don't think traffic will ever be "completely automated".

And the people who will fight it the most are probably the ones you want driving the least. Much like the person in the video above who was in such a rush. You won't be able to rush a automated vehicle when you are running late.

Yes, absolutely. I assure you that driver would be pretty ****** off at those kids if the driver died in the accident too.

The video was bad enough. With that knowledge, it's even worse. What a piece of work!

Thankfully those kids are ok.

Has to be some expert that can slow that video down and identify that person or vehicle. Real life CSI or something. They need to be caught and punished.

Thankfully nobody was hurt, but 5-year-old Charity Wolf said it felt like the SUV touched her as it went by.

"It kind of ran over my shoe a little," Wolf said.
