With Byrd being release i was curious does anyone believe that we will still be running 3 safety nickel sets as base defense similar to last year.

Saints position evaluation: Three-safety package a defensive foundation in 2016 | NOLA.com

One should see that Byrd,Vaccaro (minus 4 game suspension) and Bell were starters for majority of season. I remember Bell playing well but made a few bad decisions at deep safety, and Vaccaro had a Horrible year playing deep safety with rob ryan. I feel we are trying to mimic the rams defense with Vaccaro playing the SS/SOLB position similar to Mark Barron, I could be way off base. We have not signed another SOLB or a true FS to roam middle. Thoughts, Draft maybe? Have faith in the many CBs injured to return and Bell is permanant FS?

I'd like to see Jabrill Peppers in a 3 safety set. He can play the nickel corner role or disguise his role and let him make plays. He might be available at 32 or 42

Obi One Kenobi is the answer. The Force is s strong in him. Plus he's like 6'4" and runs a 4.4 40, can play CB or FS and he will be good in press coverage when we need to jam Julio, Evans or Benjamin at the LOS

It's for this reason that I think that if we go defense early, it will either be a versatile safety like Peppers or a three down LB like Foster.

I don't like the value of the pass rushers that are likely to be there at 11, and Peppers is also iffy that high, but his versatility is intriguing.

Any chance we re-sign Byrd for a good price?

I'm actually hoping for this. I think he deserves a shot at redemption, if he signs for cheap.

He seemed to be getting better in the latter half of last season.

According to Deuce, we ran the 3 safety package due to the lack of depth at CB. He states that it wasn't anything special, but it took advantage of Vaccaro's ability to play in the box and cover the slot.

Don't forget that we already have Erik Harris. However for political reasons, we'll end up drafting someone and they'll probably start as a rookie.

I would absolutely love if we walk away with one of top safeties in the draft. If Hooker falls to us at 11 you have to take him. If Peppers falls to 32 then you take him unless they have better players still on the board. Then if Obi Wan is available at 42, I would really like to take him as well. But I have a feeling we would likely take Obi Wan at 32 if we really like him and whose to say he will make it to 42. His stock seems to be sky rocketing at just the right time for him.

If the Saints want to do 3 safety sets, that 3rd safety must not be on the roster yet.

I would love to see the saints add an LB/S type player, an explosive strong and quick defender to match up against tight ends
