A Bucs fan's dream (4 Viewers)

What in the world are you talking about, his 1st full year as a starter he won a SB.....he made perhaps the most immediate impact in the history of the NFL.....

Yeah, won his 3rd SB at the age of 28. Brady started great and stayed that way.
I was talking about stat comparisons like the OP.

Brady in his first 91 games (1802/2915, 61.8%, 20,528 Yds, 128 TDs, 71 INTs, 88.6 RAT) right in line with the comp above. Brady was winning games right away, but he didn't put up massive stats until the middle and end of his career.

+1 Brady may have won a Super Bowl his first year, but with that he carried a 86.5 rating and 18 TDs vs 12 INTs his first year, hardly superstar numbers.

+2

Anyone thinking Brady carried the Patriots to their first 3 rings are experiencing severe revisionist history due to his accomplishments that followed. Those early Patriots teams were built on stout, stingy defenses and a battering ram rushing attack with a complimentary passing game.

Their first Super Bowl, their rushing offense was 8th in attempts, 13th in yards, and 7th in scoring while their passing offense was 24th in attempts, 22nd in yards, and 11th in scoring. As previously stated, Brady threw 18 TD's to 12 INT's and was averaging a measly 189.5 yards/game. All he had to do was not screw up and let the defense and running game control the flow of the game. For reference, Jameis Winston was averaging 185.7 yards/game during that 6 game stretch in 2021 when Payton had a firm grip on his reins.

Their second Super Bowl was slightly more passing oriented but were still relatively balanced with the rushing offense finishing 12th in attempts, 27th in yards, and 24th in scoring while passing offense finished 6th, 9th, and 11th respectively. Partly can be attributed to they didn't have a capable lead back to shoulder the load like they did previously. Antowain Smith ran for 1,157 yards and 12 TD on 287 carries their first Super Bowl season, but by the 2003 season he was 31 years old and barely cracked 600 yards and 3 TD's on ~100 less carries. Even still, Brady only threw for 3,620 yards, 23 TD's and 12 INT's on 527 attempts.

Their third Super Bowl saw the rushing attack return furiously when they rode Corey Dillon for 1,635 yards and 12 TD's on 345 carries and finished 5th in attempts, 7th in yards, and 8th in scoring while the passing offense reverted more so back to their 2001 counterpart finishing 22nd in attempts, 11th in yards, and 5th in TD's.

Just looking at the pass-rush breakdown for those seasons shows Brady then wasn't Brady we've watched the last 15 years of his career.

2001: 482 passes to 473 rushes - 50/50 pass-run split
2003: 537 passes to 473 rushes - 53/47 pass-run split
2004: 485 passes to 524 rushes - 48/52 pass-run split

After that 2004 season, the Patriots surpassed 500 rushes twice through the rest of Brady's tenure, in 2012 and 2008 when Brady was out for the year.

On the other side of that, other than the year he was injured, Brady had fewer than 500 pass attempts only twice, 2010 and 2016 (which they won another Super Bowl)

Brees is better than Mayfield in every way save for stature and arm strength.
